Frozen Day at the Beach   Calvert County, Maryland, USA

I went to my favorite stretch of beach on the cliffs this morning, with temperatures in the mid teens.  Ice was everywhere, to the point that the previous high tide never made it to the beach.  Teeth were very scarce, but I managed to find a sweet Mako and a small Meg with feeding damage, both of which measured just a hair under 1.5 inches.  Even without finding a whole lot of teeth, I still had a great time out there today.  I ran into Ton...

Nothing else to do on a saturday morning.   Calvert County, Maryland, USA

Woke up late and met obsessed down at the beach. The tide was coming in pretty strong by the time we started walking. The good kind of incoming tide. The kind that as its coming in lifts all the lighter sediment off the shell lines on the beach first. Leaving behind all the heavier things. This only lasts for a little while and then the conditions just plain suck. Obsessed and I saw a nice mako at the same t...

digger Jr   Calvert County, Maryland, USA

So it was the second day of digging. Bob met me down there at sunrise and to catch the worm.  We walked the beach with not much luck. I got a couple smaller makos and a severely beaten up meg about 1.25’’. We worked for a solid 30 minutes uncovering our ten we found on Sunday. I was working the matrix out and doing a lot of sifting to get ...

Brownies pile   Calvert County, Maryland, USA

January 13, 2008

Brownies beach at 10am. The wind was kicking from the east so beach collecting was pretty rough.  Beach collecting wasn’t the goal for today anyway. I met Bob and Chuck to dig an old pile.

What a difference a day makes - or – its pays to have your lucky charm!!!

Went to the Bay this weekend to accomplish a bunch of non-fossil things and then try to squeeze in a trip or two to the beach. Saturday the tides were too early so I slept in and made it to my favorite spot a few hours after low tide. Surprisingly, I had the beach to myself for the whole time and the winds kept the water far away from the cliff base. Found a bunch of smaller stuff and a few bones ...
average meg+mako from the bay   Calvert County, Maryland, USA

Willows once again at sunrise today. It was high  tide in the morning but the tide never really went out at all toady. I stayed for 6 hours and did pretty well considering I only found teeth in the surf, no digging today.  I got 5 makos the largest 1 3/4. A sweet 2 1/8 m...

Bay Graveyard   Calvert County, Maryland, USA

The bay is a big graveyard of sorts.  On a very low tide the other day I found an assortment of bones from whales and porpoises.  Unfortunately not many teeth were around on this day but it was still good to be out.

I did manage to find a horse tooth (a first for me), a nice cow shark tooth, a small meg, some nice snaggletooth, and another dermal plate (I have found a lot of these lately??).

relaxing day at the willows   Calvert County, Maryland, USA

Woke up this morning and met Bob and Chuck at brownies and gave them a ride to the willows. The tide was higher then expected due to some nasty winds. We walked the length of the beach picking up basic teeth. All the way at the end was a slump pile. I climbed up the top of it to get a look around and poked through some matrix and after 5 seconds of poking pulled out a 1 7/8 meg….Pretty sweet! &l...
