Lee Creek look a likes

Make no mistake the bay is not Lee Creek, but sometimes you can find teeth that have just "melted" out of the matrix. These gems can be just as pristine and in some cases have a very similar color to the famous teeth from the south.
This mornings trip was very typical of what can be had on a semi product... |

I have not been to the bay in a couple of months, and while I am happy with a good hunt (actually this post represents two trips to the bay), I have been hoping to break my own mini "meg drought". Its been a while since I have found one...let alone a nice one.
That will have to wait...no meg again. This trip did have some cool finds though highlighted by a couple of very nice mako... |

We've had tons of rain up here in Maryland over the last week or more. Usually the amount of rain is the result of a Hurricane like Isabel a few years ago. I don't know the final total, but I think it's at least over 7". Normally when I go collecting at my favorite beach(s) along the Chesapeake Bay (Calvert Cliffs), at most the water level is a little above the knee at high tide. If we get some rain, the high tide may even reach th... |

A little bit of everyting from the bay!

This post is two trips combined. All the rain and rough water has washed away large parts of the slump piles along the cliffs exposing many new fossils that until recently were covered by tons of material from the cliffs.
Day one brought a sweet Hemi, a patho Hemi, one of my favorites a upper cow shark teeth and a nearly complete dolphin axix vert.
Day two started out great with my most complete ... |

My Best Day Ever (or Why Is That Guy Dancing on the Beach?)

With all of the storms that we've had lately, I had a good feeling about going hunting today. It turned out to be my best day ever! The beach has been completely rearranged, with some old falls gone and some new falls present, and the teeth are abundant.
I had never before found a 3 inch Meg here, but today I scored 2!&... |

Tides were running above normal on sat so we watched the forcast and left to hit the afternoon tide. The dirty water made things hard so we scanned the beach blocks. I marked two blocks with verts then found an angelshark tooth in a third block. While taking the blocks back to the boat ,I picked two good hemis and a complete cow.We tried raking some teeth in but only managed some small makos and sand tigers. The one bright spot was a nice baracutta jaw and a fish spine.... |

We took our boat out to check out a few beaches last week.Pulling up on our first stop we had the beach to ourselves at least for a hour or so.The beach had a nice covering of gravel and shell but teeth were far and few between. We did find two 1 1/2 makos and a dozen small makos .Down the other end of the beach I picked up a small 1 1/2 meg , then two micro megs. The smaller one was under 1/2 inch wide, the smallest one we have.We rounded it out with a few dozen hemis and a dozen sand tigers.Abou... |

Tiny Treasures

When I headed out on Saturday morning, I knew that the conditions would be far from ideal. High tide was about 9 AM, the surf would be high and rough because of all the rain, and more rain was in the forecast. I knew that surface hunting wouldn't work today, so I broke out my old sifter and shovel, and went in search of the smaller, rarer teeth that can be found here.

I had a feeling about this place. You know the kind of feeling that makes no sense but you just have to go with. This place gets hunted so hard that you almost never find much of anything at this time of year but I just had to try. The only one there when I arrived was a guy from NJ that had been scheduled to hunt PCS this weekend and had never been here before. As I passed by I gave him a few pointers and headed down the beach. I found an interesting little vert almost right... |
