With low tide at daybreak two people still got there just in front of us. Winds had blown the tide out overnight.The few teeth that could be spotted had to be pried from the frozen mud.Verts were everywhere sticking up from shallow puddles on the flats. I searched for that big tooth ,I knew was waiting for me ,all the while filling my backpack with verts.By the far end of the beach I had found several shark verts ,one croc vert and 32 whale/porp including one in a small matrix block.With the ti... |

With low tide near noon we decided to check the beach out for a hour or so .We got to the beach 2 hours before low tide hoping to be lucky instead of first ,bu the bay was dead calm . The beach was scattered with tiny teeth ,matrix chips and shells ,but the larger teeth sank beneath sand.We did manage to find 2 good ,1chipped mako all 1 1/2 ". Found a few meg chunks but nothing whole .We did find 1 more complete cow shark and a few hemi before leaving for lunch.We seem to be on a mako cow... |

Muddy water

Low tide 7:30 1st on the beach . Was looking good ,but the wind was already driving the rough muddy water back in.Some teeth would appear for an instant ,then be swept away.We managed to find a 1 1/2 " meg and a 1 1/2 "mako walking down the beach.On the way back there wasn't much beach left ,but we did find a cow shark,a path hemi and two partial megs.It was time to go before water overran are hip boots.... |

I haven't posted in a while but the cold weather has put a damper on our boat travel and easy access sites tend to get picked over even in winter.None the less here's a few posts from the last several weeks. We got to the beach a bit late with four people already near the far end,so we took it slow . When picking up a vert half buried in the sand ,something shiney was left in the hole . I spent the weekend camping near Calvert county MD, I didn't find any big ones but with as dry as it has been this summer I'm happy to have found what I did. This is also the first time I saw someone sifting for teeth, I've never done that before but look forward to giving it a try.
See you next summer (or sooner if I can get away for a day or two)

I headed to my favorite beach yesterday, getting there about 3 hours before low tide. I was expecting a blowout tide, but the strong winds that had been forecast never showed up. It looked as though I was going to be the first one to hunt the beach today, though.

The plan for this past Sunday was to get to Purse State Park at about 10 am, about 2 hours after high tide, spend the first hour or so walking as far south as I could go, and then spend the day hunting for that perfect Otodus that I know is out there waiting for me.
