Calvert Cliffs Rarity

I almost stayed home today. I didn't get to sleep last night until after 2 am (joys of having a three week old baby in the house!), and was up at 6:45 am to get the older kids up for school. Plus, I seem to be catching my wife's cold. I was literally sick and tired! I decided to go to my favorite beach, though, because my stepdaughter stayed home from school and was able to help with the baby, and opportuni... |

Simply unbelieveable.
This morning I got to the beach with a low tide not a soul in sight and no wind.

I went to my favorite beach today, not expecting to find much. I got there about 2 1/2 hours before high tide, with a southerly wind blowing the water back up the bay. The water was deep, dirty, and very rough. I knew that surface hunting wasn't going to work today, so I brought along my sifter and shovel, hoping to find something decent rolling in the surf. Unfortunately for me, the water was so deep that in most places, the... |

Had to scratch that itch

Well its been a while since I have made a trip to the bay. This past weekend I just had to get down. I have been busy with work, and semi-side tracked with looking for shed antlers of deer. Needless to say my wife "loves" my other new hobby of finding more calcified parts of animals to jam into my already creepy office.
This post actually represents two fossils trips. One is to the bay ... |

long day without much to show

7:30 am to 11:30----1pm to 4:45pm-----and finally 5pm to dark. I spent my time on two different beaches and man without much to show for it. The tide was out but the wind was pushing the water on the beach all morning…..so not to much luck there. After coffee and lunch the wind had died down but still not much luck at (1). |

It's good to get back out there

I haven't been able to get out much over the last few weeks, but on Tuesday I found time to hit my favorite spot along the cliffs. It was very cold, there was intermittent freezing rain falling, there were a half dozen other hunters on the beach, and teeth were scarce. I had a great time out there, though. If I don't go tooth hunting at least once a week, I start having withdrawal sickness, so this trip was definately needed!... |

Sunday: February 3, 2008……..
Brownies first in the morning then a little farther south of
there to finish off the day. Man it is tuff to do well at brownies unless you’re
moving 5 tons of material. In the picture everything on the top half of the
paper is from brownies. So you can see for yourself.
Then the other place.&... |

Saturday: February 2, 2008……
At a certain little place I know of the zone 10 sticks out
of the cliffs and when it rains a lot large teeth sometimes come down as well. So that’s the story for today. A dolphin tooth
out in the water with a real pretty cow shark and a couple nice hemis.
The tide wasn’t v... |

Toothing in a Winter Wonderland

Today was a first for me - I arrived at my favorite beach, and there was nobody else there! Not even any footprints in the sand! I've never had the beach to myself like that before.
Water conditions were very good today, with an extremely low tide, but the weather sucked. It snowed on and off all day, and the stiff wind made it even colder. Luckily, the teeth made up for the cold!<... |

mega trifecta at calvert cliffs
Calvert County, Maryland, USA |

Wednesday at the Calvert cliff formations my brother Bob and i take another shot at locating some more megaladon teeth. Hoping for perfect conditions (which they were) thirty minutes into our endeavour I find my first megaladon tooth of the day, although far from perfect it was still a good find at 2 1/8 inches. Ten minutes later along the waters edge i find a much more well preserved tooth, and at 3 inches, I knew it was going to ... |
