Re: Daniel Island
I've never been but a friend of mine has, and he says that there's a lot of worn and broken stuff, but occasionally, there are nice ones to be found. The biggest be reported was a 3 incher.

Re: Daniel Island
I have been hunting Daniel Is. for several years. The fossils can be numerous, but anything over 2" is usually beat up from either the auger or the dredge pipe. The dredging is not performed with a scoop-line, but rather a giant drill. This eats the bottom more and tears up fossils. My best finds are on the beach facing the Cooper River Bridge. Most of that material was placed with the old dredging equipment. Mostly I find shark teeth and vertebrae, but every once in a while you will find whale material. There is one caviot to Daniel Is. The mosquitoes are ferocious, blood-thirsty, flying creatures (they flap their wings, not buzz). I usually go in winter, and still take bug-spray. Well, I hope this is somewhat helpful. Good luck.
