cleaning limestone off of teeth
yesterday i was using my rake and in the gravel i saw a root when i pulled it out and washed it off it was a beautiful megalodon but it had been broken and deformed before it fossillized and was enclosed in hard limestone matrix, is there any easy way to get to off?

Re: cleaning limestone off of teeth

The answer to your question is . . . no . . . There are several ways to remove limestone matrix from teeth but none of them are fast or particularly easy. You basically have two choices, mechanical or chemical. Be prepared to spend some time cleaning the tooth regardless of which method you choose to employ.

Re: cleaning limestone off of teeth
Sounds like a problem I have alot.  A lot of the stuff I find is incased in limestone.  I have an air scribe I use on my ammonites, teeth and other goodies.  Im not sure I would use chemicals on a tooth.  It may mess up the enamel of the tooth.  Before I got my air scribe i used a dremel tool to just work away at the matrix, another thing I have is a engraver.  Just becarful when working near the tooth, I have left a mark on a piece or two before, but thats all a part of getting good.  Do you have a pic of the tooth??
