Chimp,
Can't you arrange some rain (enough to help, but still allow us to collect)?
Sorry, I'm not in the rain creation business, just forecasting. It looks like there will be a chance of a little rain in the next couple of days. A better chance next week when I believe Weezil is going back. Hey Weezil, with my pervious post, do you find a good spot and dig some of those giant sized holes or just a couple of feet here and there. BTW, Blackwaterdiver, are you going this weekend?
I saw DW carry his shovel but he was moving too fast for it to go deep into the ground! There is a lot of Yorktown material to choose from. If digging is your thing you won't have difficulty finding a spot! I haven't been in a few weeks, but finding a large pile of whale material to dig around may be more difficult.
I'm scheduled to be there Sunday.
I'd really like to add "rain maker" to your resume. We sure need it! We had a trace amount in Raleigh last night, but just enough to give us a little fog this morning. Not sure what happened in the mine.
Digging is difinitely NOT my thing, so I'm hoping for the rain. I just want to find a decent meg. The latest forecast is giving eastern NC about 1/2" Thursday. I'm hoping that they will get hit by one the the storms that dump an inch or more. It looks like the storms are going to explode over the Gulf stream!
I guess I will ask Pat which are the best Yorktown hills now. I'm not sure about Sunday yet.
Hi Folks,
I never have been to the PCS-mine , but when I see pictures of people collecting there, then I see the people walking around looking for teeth. Here in Europe we most of the time have to dig to get to the fossils. This is because we don't have these large locations were you can just wander around looking for fossils on the surface. Now I was wondering would digging be very lucrative in the PCS-mine, or do you have the best changes to keep on walking
Greetings,
Martijn
Most people walk around and surface collect because the area is so large, but when the area is small or very picked over, people do dig. Sometimes it is productive. I have only found one megalodon tooth digging there, but I have also found makos, modern tigers, bulls, and numerous bones. One day I was in last spring, a guy dig up 3 very nice megalodon teeth on the same day from the same hill.
When I surface collect, I always dig a good area when I find one. I took down a clump of whale bone laden Yorktown the size of a Volkswagon on my last trip in.
I'd say you did a good job in Raleigh. We're getting rain right now! Not sure about the mine.
Good luck Sat.
Soooo.... looks like rain Sunday. Based on the reports off elasmo.com I think thats a good thing, right? If its just rain with no lightning we are good to go in the mine, right? How much rain does it take to start uncovering teeth and I assume its best to just surface collect paying close attention to the gulleys cut by the rain, right?
I am just getting fired up and wondering what some of the Lee Creek Veterans would do based on the current conditions. Aside, of course, from not telling any rookies their secrets.
