Re: PCS - Who's ready?/Roll Call

BWD,

I should be there on Saturday if the weather holds out.  I cant wait!!!!  There shold be lots of great fossils to find considering all the rain that we have had here in the past few weeks.  It should be prime hunting.  Anyone with a little insite of where the collecting area will be this year or if its in the same spot?

Re: PCS - Who's ready?/Roll Call

Jack, best place to get fresh dirt is from the mine itself!! Better use two gallon buckets-not 5 gal. It can get heavy. PY

Re: PCS - Who's ready?/Roll Call

Hi Pat,

Thanks for the advice.  I'll take some two gallon buckets with me.  Seems like I've heard before that there are spoil piles that the local DOT keeps around that they allow folks to take from.  Is this true or has it changed?

Re: PCS - Who's ready?/Roll Call

jack,

The DOT no longer uses reject dirt from PCS. Any piles you could find would be 3 years old and heavily worked. There are some piles around Aurora where you can get dirt or you can get some from the museum piles. That's the only two places I know.

Have any of the "Friends of the museum" recieved your dates yet? Been checking my email every 15-20 minutes :)  Well, not quite, but I am getting anxious.

Re: PCS - Who's ready?/Roll Call

I am a new member of the "Friends" and I have been told that there are more Friends than there are slots. They award slots based on points from volunteer work and donations to the musum. I plan on doing volunteer work this summer to get points towards getting a good spot for next year. I have my fingers crossed this year that I somehow will get in.

Re: PCS - Who's ready?/Roll Call

obsessed1 is right on how the slots are given out. First the people who have volunteer work and/or donations get there slots and then after that, they take the rest of the people and enter them into a random name generator program online (like a lottery system).  Once you make it into that you just have to hope and pray you get picked.
