My son (turns 6 this summer) recently approached me with the urgent desire to dig for fossil shark teeth. I was not able to turn it down and I could not reject him, for he is the biggest shark fan ever and ever since. It was impossible to explain to him that I have no clue where to find fossil shark teeth. So I promised him we will be going digging for shark teeth. He was all but happiness. I searched the internet for useful advice but what I found didnt satisfy me. I couldnt find a location. I have no experience in fossil hunting whatsoever, except for that one time when I was I kid and we digged for seashells in a sandpit. I would be very greatful for any hint leading me to some humble shark teeth. Anything will do. The quality of the finds is not important, what counts is that we find something (I'm really not expecting to find a megalodon tooth). The fossil teeth should be lying on or near the surface to be easy picked up, even for a child. I have no proper equipment except for a shovel. It's all about digging. The spot should be accessible by car, a short walk will be no problem. I'm located in northern Texas near the Red River area. Any location between Dallas, including Dallas area, and north of Dallas towards the Red River valley would be fine. Thanks for taking your time to read this quite elaborate request.
You could try contacting the Dallas Paleontological Society at the link below. Maybe they can help.

Daryl.
I live in the DFW metroplex, and I want to start by saying theres not too many places to find sharks teeth here. And you will never find them just laying on the ground, I wish. THere are some spots to find sharks teeth, but they are usally creeks of rivers, and you have to dig and sift the gravel. I'm not sure they are the best places for a 6 year old. Email me when you get a chance and I may be able to help you out a bit
