Cleaning Venice Megs

What do you suggest as far as cleaning teeth with barnacles and other sea creatures encrusted on the teath...  Or Maybe Don't Bother?

I have a couple nice specimens but the barnacles or barnacle husks ruin it...

My feelings are i am probably stuck with what i have but just in case i thought i would run it by some of you experts.

-Matt

p.s. should i be doing anything for preservation?

Re: Cleaning Venice Megs
I have a couple ocean teeth that I have not cleaned at all, and the barnacles add charater to the teeth. Others, like the couple Venice megs that I have found, I soaked them in apple cider vinegar. The vinegar ate through the coral and they cleaned up very nice after about a 45 min bath, and a scrubbing with a tooth brush. If you try this approach be careful, I  have heard stories of teeth being ruined my vinegar so you may want to weigh the risk. If the teeth are completely covered with coral, you may be suprised on the shape of the tooth once it is cleaned. Hope this helps.

Re: Cleaning Venice Megs
I've used a 50-50 mix of vinegar and hot water, but like FossilMick said don't let it soak to long it will ruin a tooth.I usually soak the for 30 nin the rinse them well .
