With all of the fossil collectors out there, and all of the fossil collecting done around the world, why are there still so few "complete" or nearly complete specimens found? Were the conditions such that there was a lot of energy causing the specimens to become scattered? I know scavaging by other creatures may be the cause for some dismemberment, but with all of the millions and millions of specimens that perished, I still have a hard time understanding why more complete or nearly complete specimens are found, whether it is skeletal remains of mammals, or associated tooth sets from sharks.
Daryl.
I have wondered that for a while too. But, I have been seeing jaws and skulls of Mosasaur's in the Dallas area for the past few years now. As a matter of fact, heres a good example: Mosasaur Some luck person spotted this in a creek bed after all the heavy rains we have been having here. They are unsure if its whole, because the water keeps delaying the dig. I was told I could check it out first hand, and maybe even help dig a little in the mud to un earth the skull. Heres a couple pic site that some people have taken of the site.
