vertabraz
hello, This afternoon I found something really cool. I was searching through a large spoil pile and as I was walking up the mound I saw a shark vertabra that was in the same exact place as the one I found there last week. Since it looked just like the same one to I figured they were associated and there might be more. So I dug around with my hands and pulled out 8 more identical vertas. All 10 of them average 1.5" In diameter and 0.5" in thickness. When I line them together It looks really awesome! They are all intact except for one that has bite marks! They are flat on the sides, The Neophytes Guide identifys them as Lamnoid type. Also found within a couple feet of the vertas were 6 ANGYS all under 2" and two of them almost perfect! I guess there could be more out there but since it was in a spoil pile The rest could be anywhere in the pile. Also found a 2" capybara's upper molar today! The const. job I'm working at in goosecreek is void of fossils but I have found some artifacts. The place I found the vertas is close to the Golf Course place. I was wondering if you put that buvatar stuff on all your teeth to polish them. I sometimes polish my teeth with vasoline, I hope thats safe for them! Vasoline isnt very chill. Where do you find buvatar? I cant wait to see what youve found this week after all this rain! Later!!

Re: vertabraz
WOW! If that pile is chandler bridge, I bet all your finds are from the same shark! If I were you, I'd go back and take that spoil pile apart and see if there's any more there. If you know where they got it from, go there and poke around, too. You may have stumbled upon the find of a lifetime! If you do find more, try to take some pictures of the teeth together. I only know of one other associated set of angustidens teeth ever found. You may have just found another. Good job! Butvar isn't to make the teeth shiny. Instead, its purpose is to preserve fragile fossils from further degradation (i.e., brittle bones and roots on teeth). I got some from a friend of mine, but if you want to buy some, just do a google search on Buvar, and I'm sure you'll find a place to buy it. Some people use a buffing wheel and polishing compound to shine teeth. Be careful if you decide to do that, though, because its really easy to lose hold of them while buffing. Then, they go flying across the room and break. DW

Re: vertabraz
The Aurora Fossil Museum sells Butvar in small containers, I think for $5.

Re: vertabraz
Most teeth are already well preserved and need little attention. I tried soaking a tooth in Butvar and it helped the root but the enamel rejected the Butvar and just made a goey mess. I'd just buff them a little and enjoy.
