Re: Biggest Calvert Cliffs sharks tooth?

First of all I love talking about large megs from Calvert County. Even more then that I love the chance to even look at these elusive monsters. I recently came across the chance to see and hold a real 6+ inch Megalodon from the Chesapeake bay. It was found by a very old collector back in 1972. On the info tag was written, "Found in 1972" and then someones last name. I asked where exactly it was found and I unfortunately couldn't get a clear reply back. My guess would be in the area between Flag Ponds and Scientists Cliffs. There arent to many megs found there in comarison to Calvert formation but as rumor has it they can get very large.

The tooth itself was the PINNACLE of beautiful Megalodon teeth. For the hunters in the MD region best way for me to describe the color is to have you think of the megs you get out of the sandy zone 10 at brownies. Lightly tan root. 100%completete black bourlette(dental band). Very minor feeding damage on serrations. The crown a slightly faded mixture of grey, light blue and white. The crown also apeared elongated. Im not sure if this was due to the root actully being smaller in width or that the size of the tooth was just huge. I couldn' tell and I failed to measure the distance between root lobes. Then if my jaw wasnt already on the floor. I notice scratch marks from another tooth from lingual view on the crown. Deep ones! This really is the perfect tooth. It has everything.

This being the only 6 inch meg from the cliffs I've ever seen I have a feeling it is one of the most beautiful specimen I'll see for quite some time to come. I have a few pictures of the tooth but I'm going to get permission from the collector before posting it on here.

nice dropping in...and keep the Calvert Cliffs megalodon forums rolling!...ps im a horrible speller.

Re: Biggest Calvert Cliffs sharks tooth?

My biggest at Brownies is actually a 1/2 of a tooth.  If found all of these pictured fossils in one trip a few years ago.  Sorry about the photo quality, especially the ruler.  I'll have to find a new ruler for pics, LOL.  The slant height of the broken tooth is about 4".  I'll reply back with an exact measurement.
