PEACE RIVER

The Peace River is about 96" (8'-0") above normal at our dock in Arcadia and holding.  See the text in red below. 08/24/08 It may be raining where you are but it doesn't mean it's raining where we are so call first. Water is silty from the rains. Fossil hunting is not good.

This came from the web site for canoe outpost.  With Fran gone we have a unique chance for fresh deposits in the river now.  I was talking to a fossil collector who told me that after these flodding conditions go down new finds are around every bend in the river.  Cant wait!!!!!!!

Be safe,

Curt

Re: PEACE RIVER

Sorry, it was FAY not FRAN.  I seem to get the names of these storms all mixed up.

Re: PEACE RIVER

I've been meaning to ask one of you Florida collectors what the conditions are like there after hearing about FL getting several FEET of water from Fay  in different areas.  I know I would be chomping at the bit waiting to hit different areas here in Maryland if we got that kind of rain.  We had a ton of rain a few years ago after Hurricane Isabel blew through.  Aside from the destruction due to flooding and all the other bad stuff that comes along with the remnants of a hurricane, collectors here in MD were waiting to pounce on Calvert CLiffs.  There were mounds of dirt 30 feet tall, 60 feet wide, and 30 to 40 feet out into the water that literally got washed away like loose sand.  It really helped stir things up at the beach for many months, probably even a few years.  Be careful out there!

Daryl.
