Re: Come On Hanna baby!

Well Im back with some very dissapointing news. I watched the storm all day on saturday from Brownies Beach, Willows beach, and Plum point....Yea I guess calvert formations my favorite. And for the record did not walk under any cliffs at all. 12:00 in the after noon at P.point there was a crazy high tide! I could just imagie the teeth being pounded out of the zone 10.

At Willows Beach Ive never seen the tide higher and with the constant rain couldnt stay out for to long.

Brownies was pretty cool as soon as you walk out onto the beach from the trail theres usually 10-15 ft of sand before the water line. Saturday the entire beach was covered with water. And not covered with raging waves and muddy water but something I would have drempt about. There was shells and gravel spread evenly throughout the entire beach with an inch of water constantly moving it around. I took some pictures from the wooden walkway and found a porpoise tooth. Thats the only time I visited Brownies over the weekend.

Sunday I was at Plum at 4 am. To my disbelief there was 2 sets of footprints in the sand leading to the cliffs. The beach was a HUGE disapointment. I did manage to find one small meg out in the water but no nice makos no large hemis nothing really like what I was expecting. The 2 people in front of me claimed to have similar luck calling it "a worthless storm". I went to the willows where I thought as the day went on I may have more luck  (oh lets talk about the tides. never seen it higher then Saturday then Sunday rolls around and I havnt seen the tide this low since january) Interesting... anyway my friend Ronnie had found an awesome squad tooth PERFECT in some fallen 10 (which by the way there wasnt much of it) and also a nice black meg out of a boulder. I then walked down the beach determined to find something to make my 2 day venture worth wile. NOTHING! I mean not a mako over an inch...not a meg...almost nothing. I went back to is house up the beach to get a drink. When I get there the first words out of his mouth were..."AS SOON AS YOU WALKED AWAY"... He then pulled out te 3.5 incher. A lil feeding damage but soooo sharp. Dark blue upper lateral. really wide root base. Sickened by the tooth I made myself put in 4 more hours on the beach hoping for something...well it never came. The tide kept going out and continually exposing less fossils. TO MUCH SAND.

the only highlights of the weekend were 2 bird bones...cool. A small meg....and well I think thats it. I got a total of about 600 teeth. but nothing good..... Sunda was also the world record amount of time I spent at the cliffs in one day. Almost 12 hours......I really dont even want to think about it.

maybe the sand will wash away by next weekend. Until then the photo situation is till pretty bad since the cord is still MIA

later guys

Re: Come On Hanna baby!

I only had a couple hours early in the morning before doing a fossil display at Flag Ponds. I hit the parking lot at Brownies about 5:30 ...4 cars were there ahead of me. Oh well there just has to be plenty of stuuf they missed. So I went slow and looked very carefully. There wasn't as much gravel as I had expected. Long story made short I spent 2 1/2 hours there and saw more collectors than I found fossils. Same story as Tony there was just way too much sand. A hypural and a 3/4" hemi were the highlights of the day.

Re: Come On Hanna baby!

I posted my finds from Hannah under the trips section so I'll keep this short(er).  I forgot to mention in my post that as I was walking back I heard some commotion way up ahead and saw a collector showing another collector something in his hand.  I thought, awe man, what did I miss!  I had already collected in that area!  Well, this guys apparently walked up to an old pile that had been there for months.  He did a little extra digging and out popped a 3.5+" Meg - it wasn't perfect, but still nice.  It kinda made me sick.  Oh well.  I may not be able to find all of them, but I'm sure gonna try to!

Daryl.

Re: Come On Hanna baby!

I feel a little left out lately.  We had our second child in July so I have not been down to do any hunting in a while.  I did get my Lee Creek slot and a "hall pass" from the big shot to go.  Cant wait to get down there!  Hopefully the third times the charm for something big...4"++!!
