I have been a fly on the wall for a few weeks and have finally decided to join and post. I hate the first post where I introduce myself and all that. Not sure if I am posting in the right place so excuse me for being a noob.
So let me introduce myself and move on with this thing. I live in Solomons, MD and have been going down to Calvert Cliffs for the last few years with less than stellar luck. I recently went out on the Potomac with a co-worker and and found more than double the teeth I had ever found at Calvert in YEARS. Plus, I was finding teeth that were BIG. So I have been checking out websites and keep coming back to this one. Me and my co-worker are pretty into this shark tooth hunting hobby and head out every chance we can get.
I am open to any suggestions for good hunting places and methods so I don't lose the burning desire to find a meg of any size. I have a theory that people won't just hand over information on their "honey holes" but close would cool.
Thanks for a great site and I look forward to sharing tales and pics of finds and maybe meeting up with some MD locals and heading out for a trip.
Welcome.
I've been collecting in Maryland for years. I don't have a lot of megs, but have some pretty good ones, and all I can say is that persistance pays off, and good timing. There is a lot of collecting pressure these days and no secret spots with public access. Again, timing is everything. The one thing that is certain when beach collecting is that nothing is constant. One storm can revive a spot to become spectacular one day and a different storm can either wipe out a beach or dump a load of worthless sand on top. Chunks of cliffs fall all the time, and new chunks will fall, adding more fossils for us to find. Keep optimistic and you'll find them.
I have no idea how to email you Tony. I am a noob to these forums. You can feel free to email me and we can set something up. I am up for a trip and to gain some knowledge in the field of teeth hunting.
