Access to Plum Point?
Hi, I was just wondering if any of you VA/MD collectors could give me any info on whether it is possible to have access to the Plum Point site on the Chesapeake? I have heard alot about it but have never really been able to get over to it...Any info would be appreciated. Thanks alot.

RE: Access to Plum Point?
All land access to plum point is by crossing private property just like about every other site on the bay. The best public beach on the bay is by far Chesapeake beach otherwise known as brownies or randals. The bad part about this beach is that it may have as many as twenty collectors on it at any given time. But if you hit it right you can have an incredible day. Best day I’ve ever had here is seven complete megs up to 3 1/4". Due to the site being early Miocene the megs and chubs here tend to be smaller 1 1/2 - 2" but every once and a while a nice 3 or 4" pops out and when the moon sun and stars align a 5" might show up. The best thing about this beach is that it puts out more cow shark and dolphin teeth than any other site I have ever collected. Both of my symphyseals are from here. Oh by the way be very careful at this beach, chunks of cliff fall here as often as rain falls from the sky. I myself have been hit twice here and know of two others in recent times to be hit. One being hit in the back of the neck and having to crawl off the beach. And the other my brother who had a section of cliff about 40' wide by 70' high slide right out onto him. But luckily instead of falling from the top down the section of cliff slide out from the bottom pushing him out into the water about 35' ripping his backpack and shoes off in the process. The fossil gods where definitely smiling down on him that day.

RE: Access to Plum Point?
Yes, Brownie's Beach is the closest access point to Plum Point, but don't underestimate the site. On July 28 I was out there having a good day already and I came across a very nice 3" Meg. Two days later I found two complete cow shark teeth with the roots intact. Good Luck.
