Rocky Point Quarry
I keep finding myself going to Scott's tooth in the "weekly tooth" area - a tough pick among all of the teeth out there, but it my be my favorite out there. I would like to make a side trip to Rocky Point Quarry to try and sniff out a few siblings of Scott's tooth. I have the number to the Mine there, but anyone have any info on the collecting areas - is is digging or sifting or chipping or just looking? What are the best tools to bring along? Or, does anyone know of any sites that have pictures of the quarry collecting area? I google'd but was not able to get much other than a couple of trip write-ups. P.S. If anyone is willing to join me on a hunt, I am always willing to pay for lunch/dinner in exhange for knowledge - I will even allow you to supersize it...

RE: Rocky Point Quarry
Tools won't help you much at Rocky Point. It is pretty much all walking and looking. Most of the looking is in the piles of overburden that are laid out in rows. The teeth are pretty scarce and it is not unusual to go home empty handed. Echinoids are very abundant though. The quarry is open to collectors on Thursday and Friday afternoons but only when they aren't blasting. My experience is that they blast almost every time I decide to take the day off to look for fossils. Its one of my favorite spots to collect just because the collecting area is huge so you rarely run into other collectors. Good luck.

RE: Rocky Point Quarry
Thanks Eric - that is the info I am looking for. Not worried about the scarcity, they can't be as scarce as they are here (michigan). Hopefully they will be open when I am down in the near future.
