Greens Mill Run, NC
Hi folks. Can someone out there help with some info regarding Greens Mill Run, NC? I'm going in to Lee Creek next month and my buddy and I are thinking of hitting the Greens Mill Run spot the day before. We've only been once before and it really sucked. We parked near the "park" and entered the stream. We were told by someone to find gravel pockets with our shovels, then scoop up piles of the stuff and sift it through our 1/2" screens. We found next to nothing. We tried several spots down stream closer to the bridge, and even hunted up the little side stream. I saw a layer of shell material in that side stream and sifted a bunch of it, but only saw shells. Someone else I know thinks there's a "layer" near or in the banks of the stream? If so, how far down in the water is it? If you can help point us in a better direction or give me some pointers I'd appreciate it. I don't want to drive over 400 miles to repeat the last performance.

Thanks in advance,
Daryl.

RE: Greens Mill Run, NC
I have relatives that live in Greenville. I have gone to Greens Mill Run and have had similar experiences. I will never go back there. I have heard that some have found some worthwhile stuff but not me. I also consider it a waste of time.

RE: Greens Mill Run, NC
I'm with ya guys. I have never had much luck at GMR. I have been with people who have, however (GRRRRRR). Friends of mine have picked up numerous 1.5-2.5" Great Whites, a few mosasaur teeth, and some pretty S. pristodontis teeth, while only 5 feet away what I find is really water-worn. Again, GRRRRR. I think I'm going to attempt a few new localities along the creek in the upcoming weeks, since we have had all this rain recently.

As an aside, keep an eye out and your ears open. Rumor has it that the cops are booting people out of the creek because some collectors are digging in the bank, and causing erosion. The rumor further states that the city is considering rip-rapping the stream where it goes through town. Sigh.
