RE: Green's Mill Run review.
Thanks, that's exactly where I've looked before with much less success. I didn't look very long though. I will check it out again next week.

RE: Green's Mill Run review.
Keep your eyes peel for the snakes in the creek by the way (seriously). There is that one poisonous snake in the creek that is aggressive - one of only 2 species that will attack vs just defend itself I believe. A couple of buddies have run into it and do their best to avoid it now. I have had good luck there only because of guided trips by friends that know where to go. Can't share their spots, but I can say that we hunted everywhere from ankle to chest deep water when I was there. Great white heaven...I got 5 on my last trip, 1 is out there as ToTW. Good luck.

RE: Green's Mill Run review.
I just got back from a weeks stay with family in Greenville.
I went to Lee creek last week and found a 2 inch meg and a great white. It was very windy - 50 mph gusts.

I went to Greens Mills Run twice. The park superintendent is very nosy and made sure we were not up to no good. I'll tell you exactly where I went - I don't care, I hope you all find good stuff. You can find stuff from the end of the ball field upstream past the elm street bridge. I have found teeth all through that area. Again I found my three big dog friends on the property just across from the elm st bridge. And I agree it is a very snaky place in summer especially. Be careful!!! Threre is also LOTS to broken glass in that stream with other pollution. I was there after recent heavy rain so some parts of the stream were too high for waders. And I wouldn't even think about snorkeling because of the pollution. Happy hunting!

RE: Green's Mill Run review.
Hi to all of you!

I'm a 40 year old Dutch guy and will be coming to Greenville for business from June 1st until June 4th.
Being a fossil-enthousiast and well aware of South Carolina's reputation w.r.t. fossil shark teeth I was wondering whether Greenville and surroundings might hold something of interest. So I checked the web and ..... look and behold: I found this thread.
It seems in Greenville itself there are some nice locations.
However, since I won't have much spare time and can's bring along any "serious equipment", I was wondering whether any of you lives in the area and is willing to either sell or swap some shark teeth. I myself and a serveral other Dutchies I know are regulars at Mill (check www.fossiel.net, the English version), a sandpit in the South of the Netherlands, renowned for its big (up to 3 inch) Isurus Hastalis (miocene ancestor of the great white) teeth. Just about a month ago, I happend to come across a pristine lower jaw tooth of 7.3 cm (about 2.9 inches). Before you ask: No it is not for sale ;-).
Isurus Escheri teeth are nore rare but can also be found there, as well as whale, dolphin and fish vertebrae and ray teeth and spines, shells etc..
Living myself near Maastricht, I might also have some cretaceous (Maastrichtian) fossils: shark teeth, crab claws, belemnites (Belemnitella Mucronata) etc. to swap. I will also check with a good friend of mine.

But, before we delve into more detail, is any of you or any of your friends interested, please let me know @:
p.dols@tiscali.nl.

Cheers
Paul

Hi Paul,
Are you going to Greenville North Carolina or Greenville South Carolina? The Greenville mentioned here is Greenville North Carolina.

RE: Green's Mill Run review.
I have not received any replies yet, so I guess this means you're not interested. Guess I will have to see if I can create some time to have a look myself then.
I was wondering whether there is a shop(ping mall) nearby where I can buy a small spade and a screen of some kind. Also: are there any shops selling sharkteeth in Greenville NC. Any info is welcome

Thanks and cheers,
Paul

RE: Green's Mill Run review.
There are plenty of places in Greenville to buy a shovel. As of selling fossils in Greenville- I don't know of any. Not many in Greenville are aware that there are sharks teeth in Greens Mill Run. They are so close to Lee Creek that they usually go down to Aurora. Watch out for the glass in the stream and the snakes too.

RE: Green's Mill Run review.
Thanks for the info, Chimp.
I do hope I can take some time off to have a look (and dig :-)). This snake-stuf however does scare me a bit, probably because snakes are rare in The Netherlands and there is only one shy poisenous kind.
Anyway, apparently the best places are the deep holes up and downstream from the Elm Street bridge.
One more question: since I might have a rental at my disposal, I was wondering whether it would be worthwhile to drive to Aurora and have a look around for waste from the Lee Creek mine to sift through?
Thanks again for your help and I'll let you know how I fared when I get back home.

Paul

P.S.1: Should you ever go to the Netherland and would like to know more about Mill and other places where you can find sharkteeth, give me a call.
P.S.2: Take a look at these two links:

Forget about the text, it's Dutch, just take a look at the pictures. On the first page, me and some other guys are busy, "fishing" for sharkteeth. On the second page is a picture of me (in the yellow coat) during a break.

RE: Green's Mill Run review.
It wouldn't hurt. They have a pile on the way to Aurora just past Chocowinity and one at the Aurora fossil museum. I didn't find much at the pile last time I was there, you never know though. I would pay attenion to the snakes, water moccisains can be nasty.
