Raking in the teeth . . .
It's not everyday that I, a relative newcomer to shark tooth hunting, find a gold mine for shark teeth. I'm not even going to begin to think I beat any of you diehards to a newly constructed pond in Dorchester County, S.C., but I know I was in the right place at the right time following a nice little rain storm. I filled a kid's sand bucket with teeth, the nicest being a 4.25-inch meg and about 4 nice augies, all of which I found without any digging whatsoever (my back is thanking me). Anyway, I was one happy amateur meg hunter.

good to hear from j.c.(super nice guy)i saw you leaving the other day and couldn't get to ya to say hi.you gave the inspiration on the whole sand castle bucket too.since i met you at wescott and i was with my daughter(the lil girl kicking dirt in your hole while she sat above you talking her head off.thats when you ripped out this killer angy and i drooled as you placed it back in the lil bucket.since then Aubry makes me use a green sandcastle bucket for luck and it hasn't let me down yet.she still has the big ole vert that you where easy to give here as you where leaving.shes forever greatfull. hey j.c. if your in the area i got a killer spot that is producing the best of the best.ill call you later this week if your not chasing ambulances(lol)great to hear from you .

Derik,

Hey, what's up? Good to hear from you. This was maybe the second or third time I've been hunting since I saw you that one time. Soccer season kept my weekends busy. I hope to make it out more this summer.

Yes, I swear by the kid's sand bucket . . . just the right size.

Oh well, got to go. I hear a siren outside. Let's go hunting sometime.

Raking in the Teeth II
Went back to this site yesterday and saw footprints. At times it felt like I was picking up things like whale bones that others had already picked up and tossed away. (If I never find another shark vertebra ever again, I won't complain.) In any event, though, I came home with another kid's sand bucket full of teeth. A couple really nice angustidens were the day's prize; however, I also came across 5 nice whale teeth lying side-by-side and a huge pathologic meg (with little "waves" on the sides), which unfortunately has a huge chuck of tip missing. Anyway, I'll send pics sometime soon.

ah so i see. my daughter was right about your sand bucket method...i know how you feel about footprints at your spot.i had a similar experience today.all i could think about was getting to one of d.w. hand-me-down-ditches.(still a killer spot)i had to work during this weeks rains in Chas county,so all i could think about was getting there before everyone else got there.so i finally made it,thinking of the spot i had prepped out for my next visit.my heart sank and someone found my layer i camoflaged.there where fox holes every where and i felt discuraged.it was hot and i slammed 5 water bottles in an hour and decided to quit when all i found where a few broad makos and nice 1 and 1/2 hemmie.after being put on the spot this week with the new job.it was still refreshing just to get out and smell the ditch water for a bit.however im still stoked about the 2 bennie's i recovered last week from the spot.glad to see your scooping them up buddy.we definitely need to hit the ditch together so i can show you the ropes and production of the good ole sifter.see ya round j.c.
top regards to ya

RE: Raking in the teeth . . .
The heat is a b*tch this time of year. My clothes were drenched after about half an hour of just surface collecting last weekend.

RE: Raking in the teeth III
My newly dig pond is now a neighborhood pond with graceful slopes and hosed-on grass seed. Damn, that was fast. My third trip produced nothing worthwhile (more lousy vertebrae and the like). Time to prospect again. Wish me luck finding a new quarry.
