Storage and display of shark teeth.
So, what do you guys use to store and/or display teeth--your best ones and the rest?

I've been putting my best ones in Riker mounts and the junk in plastic storage drawers. Anyone have any better ideas or suggestions?

RE: Storage and display of shark teeth.
I have one walnut and one cherry display cases for the trips where I display at fossil shows. The other stuff goes in the riker mounts (good stuff), labeled ziplock baggies (lower grade), or piled loosely as "give-aways" for children.

I store my teeth in a large tool box that you can move around on wheels. You can pull out the drawers to look at the teeth. When I'm done looking at them I lock them back up with a key. These work really well for storing and displaying teeth at home, but I wouldn't recommend using one to display teeth at a show.

RE: Storage and display of shark teeth.
I have a set of old map drawers that I put my best large teeth in. Smaller perfect teeth go in those little plastic drawers that they sell at the hardware store. Then I have various cans where I sort the broken stuff. I also use riker mounts but they are all sitting in a pile in the closet along with my nice pleistocene stuff. My fossil display situation is shameful right now. da f0ssZ has just about the best display i've seen lately. i'll give him the honor of explaining it, however.

RE: Storage and display of shark teeth.
Well, I certainly hope my description of my storage and display of shark teeth lives up to the hype..............

You see my friends there has always been a certain order to the universe, from the atomic structure up to the mechanics of orbital motion. And as we recall from history, peoples have also attempted to bring order to through different societal structures. So with this approach in mind, I began to ponder the most appropriate structure to store and display shark teeth. The idea of entropy seemed too elaborate with all the system boundaries, and using atomic models lacked certainty (we cannot simultaneously know the momentum and location for an electron). I subsequently turned away from a scientific approach and looked towards societal structure. I thought of a great fit; the English caste system in the Mid-ages.

Here's how it works: The teeth are segregated into 4 classes; for discussion purposes we will call them peasant, land owner, nobility and the royal family. Naturally, the discrimination process is based upon tooth wholeness, quality of preservation (e.g. crisp serrations, complete bourlette) and uniqueness (color, etc). The peasant teeth are stored in glass jars in bulk or in a large plastic pull out drawer. Land-owning teeth are stored in an organized stacked pull out drawer system (similar to the hardware storage systems at Lowe's). Each little drawer is labeled by species or fossil type. The second tier, nobility teeth, are displayed in riker mounts. These cases are stored on a larger display vanity and may or may not be clearly visible. Royal family teeth are displayed prominently in hardwood cases and/or visible rikers. I have a several large fossil display vanities for this purpose. In addition, there is a cherry display case in our living room with a glass top to display royalty. An important point is that royalty, nobility and land-owners are segregated by species.

This may seem a bit agonizing, but hey, it is all about the teeth. Right???

FYI...I am fortunate enough to have a "fossil room".

my god man!!!lol
you make my collection seem not even peasent compared to your displays.im feeling like a hermit much less than a peasant.

naw.... i got some nice stuff too.i tried the scientific approach too.however it seems there is never a conclusion to science .its endless observations that kill us.thus brings us to the point of humbleness ,to just go get a slid ebox from the depot for 10 bucks.....great job guys.

RE: Storage and display of shark teeth.
After reading DaFossZ's methodology, I give up. I think I'm just going to throw all my teeth back where I found them.
