classification question
Hi all; I have a few books about shark teeth and a lot of times it lists the scientific name of the shark with an "sp" at the end. What does that mean? Thanks

Re: classification question
It means that the species of the shark is unknown. For example, in Isurus Sp., the genus is Isurus and the species is unknown.

Re: classification question
Hello Mason, I checked the web and found one site that stated it like this: Sp." is placed after the genus, if the identifier of the shark is uncertain as to the species. Sounds good. Can't tell you for sure if it's correct but it probably is. Roy
