October Lafarge finds
I didn't find much of anything last month. Did anyone find anything good?

RE: October Lafarge finds
I found a nice ric between 2 and 2 and 1/2 inches. Good
root, serrations, and enamel with just a little tip damage.
I don't take very good pics of my teeth, but you can see it
at www.flickr.com/photos/reeltooth.

Hey Gerald I was up there too. I found some nice makos but no Rics. Did you find that Ric in the limestone pile spot or along the dirt cliff quarry wall spot. Just curious?? Greg from Charleston

RE: October Lafarge finds
Greg:

I found it about halfway up the wall lying on top of the
dirt/clay just barely exposed. I did alot of scratching
or shallow digging in that greencap clay with no luck, but
when I sat down for a break in the middle of that wall and
just looked closely around the area I was seated, I spied
a little edge of the tooth's crown and root exposed at the
surface. I prayed that both cusps would be intact before
carefully wiggling it out of the wall. After wiping away
the clay I was shocked to see the fine condition the tooth
was in - except for just a few worn serrations and the tip
it was gem perfect. I couldn't get over the deep color of
the enamel - it was like looking into a gemstone if that
makes sense. The color has lightened or softened considerably since to more of a grey than the initial brown.
A friend of mine I met there found a tooth just as nice, but
it was at least twice as big. He found it within the
first five minutes of arriving. He just walked up to the
bottom area of the clay wall and started scratching around
before you know it he knocked a 4 inch tooth from the base
of the wall. I heard that someone else found a 4 inch tooth
in a chunk of limestone he dug out of the wall, but didn't
see it. My first trip to LaFarge I walked my legs off
without finding anything of note, while on my second I sat
on my butt and got lucky - go figure. Anyway, I can't wait
for the January dig. I'll spend my time digging into that
green clay along the wall instead of walking the older
material searching the washouts.

RE: October Lafarge finds
Yeah it is luck mostly needed when finding the big stuff. I may go up there in January. It will most likely be a cold dig but I had fun this last time so I might try it again.
