Re: One for the divers

I think he's a pansy for not loading his spear gun and shooting a fish!

Did you notice that he only touches the juvenile?

Actually, that's impressive.  I've always wanted to get in the water with a GW off the NC coast.  I wouldn't touch one though... unless it was to keep it from eating me!

Re: One for the divers
i agree, total pansy. a real man would have gone in nekked with a rubberband instead of a speargun. When I did my Great White dive, i rubbed tuna and seal meat all over my body just to make it more interesting ;)

Okay...seriously though. When I did my Great White dive, I was in total amazement but that was from the safety of the cage. Not that the cage would have stopped it if it wanted in or anything, but man how cool was that. I would do it again in a second. If anyone is considering it...i highly recommend it :)

Re: One for the divers

Hehehehehe, you said tuna and seal meat...

I don't know the depth you were diving, but think of all the shed teeth laying on the bottom waiting for a brave soul to venture into the depths!  Talk about making a haul.  Just go back when they're not chumming and fill your goody bag.

I thought I was a lunatic. After seeing that clip I may have to change my definition of the word.

Re: One for the divers

I don't know about anyone else but all I could think about during the video was how to get some of those teeth out without getting eaten. Lets see:

1. Shove a 4' length of 6"x6" in its mouth and reach in and pluck them out. Maybe one or two would stick into the wood.

2. Flip it onto its back and rub its belly until it goes to sleep and pluck some out. Oh wait, that's for alligators.

3. Attach a giant ball of blood soaked candy Dots to the end of a cable and let it take a couple of bites.

4. As the shark is trying to bite you, attach a tiny wire lasso around a tooth with the other end fastened to an open transom door, then slam the door. This may be more difficult for the posteriors.

Re: One for the divers
I did my trip out of San Diego - much cheaper and easier to get to than Australia, New Zealand, or S.Africa. I would recommend the guy I went with - www.sharkdiver.com. I am planning to head out with him for a tiger trip when I can come up with some money for it. You do not actually have to be a diver to make the trip, but it is helpful. We had 3 on our trip who were not divers and 2 of them had a tough time getting used to the claustrophobic nature of the hood especailly. I believe we had 12-14 different sharks there on our trip, the biggest ones in the 14' range. Earilier in the season (sept) you get smaller sharks and better weather, later (nov) you get bigger sharks and worse weather. I opted for an Oct trip. I shot lots of video and my buddy shot lots of pictures - great memories.

And you guys are all joking about getting teeth...the second I got on the boat I headed over to each of the crew and told them that if they pulled the bait in with a tooth on it they should bring it over to me and I would trade them $$ for it. No such luck. The bottom was a LONG way down too, no matter if teeth would be laying around or not it was out of range. We did however get a 5-gallon bucket that had been shredded which went to a teacher and a rope that had been bitten through which went to me - I think the tears clinched it for me ;).
