LaFarge in October?

A couple of us from up here in Maryland are making the trek down to LaFarge next month. I'm looking forward to meeting some of the regulars from this site and maybe even find a nice tooth or two. Can anyone suggest a place to stay? Also if anyone knows of any other places to find some fossils while we are down there it would be appreciated. If you prefer to email me directly you can send any info to:       k_l_may@hotmail.com

Re: LaFarge in October?
Exit 199 (17-A) off I26 in Summerville is only 20 minutes away from Lafarge and there are a bunch of hotels there right next to the Interstate. I'm planning on being there, but I don't know about any of the other members.

Re: LaFarge in October?

What is the most productive way to find fossils at LaFarge, Surface collecting or digging? If digging is the way to go should I use a shovel or a 4 prong rake? Also is there any clues to look for to tell me I'm loooking in the right material to find fossils? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Re: LaFarge in October?
surface collecting is better, but there are a lot of collectors so you'll run out of surface before too long. bring a shovel. you can't rake the fossil bearing material at lafarge. look for the limestone or the green clay to find fossils.

Re: LaFarge in October?
take i 26 towards Columbia to exit 177. turn left at the stopsign and go back over the freeway. pass the gas station and take the right into the plant. there will be a guy at the gate who will hand you a release and tell you where to go.
