Hello and Introduction from New York
Hello, We have just joined your site. We are avid fossil and mineral collectors who live in New York. The fossils that we collect in our local area are from bedrock formations. (No soft sediments around here) My wife was raised in Georgia. She moved to New York 14 years ago. We have alot of information that we would like to share and lots of localities and pictures of some fossils that we have collected.

Re: Hello and Introduction from New York

Welcome!  I myself  am from New York, but now im stuck in Texas.  We have great fossils down here so its not all that bad.  What part of NY you guys live in.  You get any of those cool Trilobites up that way?

I look forward to see some of the stuff you find!

Jax

Re: Hello and Introduction from New York
Thank you Daryl. We live in Catskill New York. We collect mostly from lower and middle Devonain rocks of the MidHudson Valley region. I have collected some Ordivician fossils just east of Fonda. Along Rte 5. I have collected at a few places around that area. I will have to check my field notes and get back to you.

Welcome to the site! We don't have many trilobites here, so I'm really looking forward to seeing what you have found. If you just want to put your photos in the forum, that's fine, but if you'd like to post them in our fossils or trip reports sections just say the word. That way, your finds will be sorted by species, formation, age, and location like all the other fossils here.

Re: Hello and Introduction from New York

WOW  that name brings back some memories.  My family and I went camping close to the Catskill Game Farm alot and that how I know that name.  What a nice area.  Im actually from a small town near Binghamton called Tioga Center.  Pretty small town, but I loved it.

I didnt hunt fossils when I lived there, I wished I did cause there are a few nice spots you can hunt trilos there.  OH I did manage to make a friend thru a friend type deal and almost got to hunt for trilos in OK, but I had to work and had to miss out, BUT he did send me a package of a bunch of nice stuff(not to him, but to me it was gold)  I am trying to clean them up and i'll have to post some pics up soon.

look forward to seeing the cool pics

Re: Hello and Introduction from New York

Wow, just tonight I was going through a real old photo album of some pics of me and my brother at the Catskill Game Farm when I was about 12 yrs old.  We also had some pics of a camp I went to at Beaver Cross.  NY is such a big state, that rarely do I run into folks that are from an area even close to my hometown.  It's a small world after all.  Look forward to seeing your fossils from my home state.

Daryl.

Re: Hello and Introduction from New York
Daryl, it took us a little while to figure it out and with help from ditchweezil, we finally got the New York Trip report posted. Check it out and let us know what you think. You will have to use the search to find the trip you can also check the invertabrates, the pictures are not the best quality we still have to work on that. Thanks for your interest.
