Bivalve shell in sandstone
I have a bivalve shell that appears complete, but is mostly encased in Sandstone. Does anyone know how to get more of it exposed, so it can be better displayed?
I tried using a toothbrush, but it really didn't do much. I'm also worried that I'll brush away the shell with that technique. What I see of it is so beautifully preserved, I want to show it off in my Fossil Room. Any ideas?

RE: Bivalve shell in sandstone
It's tedious, but buy some cheap dental picks at the local flea market, and, using good lighting and maybe some magnification, just pick away...

If you have a dremel or an air-abrader, they're even better! I use my dremel for this using a sharp diamond-dust abrading bit. A basic dremel setup is about $75, and comes with a bunch of tips, including the abrading bits.

Good luck!
