anyone know some good localities that are an easy drive from the DC area. i knew some, but can't remember and wanted to get my little girl hooked

Augen, I couldn't agree more. It's one of my favorite collecting spots. One's back will go out before you pick up all the teeth, although the overwhelming majority are small Striatolamia. Great place for kids--shallow water, no waves, no trash, lots of easy teeth to be had beach-pickin'. As an aside, it's also a great place to observe bald eagles and ospreys.
