New Artifacts Added.

I added some artifacts for your viewing pleasure. I put everything under the North Carolina artifact heading even though the material comes from several states that aren't listed. Some of the material didn't fit the categories so it's a bit jumbled, but it's in there. Everything I put up is a personal find of mine. Some of these items left me smiling for days after finding them. Enjoy.

Re: New Artifacts Added.

Nice artificats BRM!  Thanks for posting those pics.  I've never found any artificats before, it's nice to see what some look like so I have an idea what to look for, especially if you're looking for shiny or dull surfaces, different shapes, etc.

Daryl.

Re: New Artifacts Added.

Thanks Daryl. Once you realize there are artifacts in the same places as teeth, you begin to notice them. A friend of mine couldn't seem to find an artifact to save his life, then one day he picked up a point off the beach. He has been finding them regularly since then. DW set up several more states in the artifact category and even put my artifacts where they belonged. Thanks DW!!! I'll post more artifacts and fossils next week. I got a call earlier tonight with a fossil trip invitation and now I have to go to Lee Creek this weekend. Darn!!! I really wanted to catch up on my laundry. Yea right!

Re: New Artifacts Added.
Hey BigRedMeg - I wanted to make a few comments about some of your artifact postings. That is quite a diverse collection of some incredible stuff. And it's very interesting to me how you've been able to find artifacts in so many locations. I find the odd piece from time to time in different places but the vast majority of my stuff has come from one location. That flint/chert axe from Kentucky is a beautiful artifact. And the Kentucky point you found in the same stream is a beauty as well. What a shame that stream is no longer accessable. I also very much like the bell pestle in the same posting, also the bead. Under your Maryland posting I am very interested in the sharpening stone. Similar artifacts are found in NJ, but only in very specific locations, and they are considered diagnostic of a certain culture (Koens-Krispin) that also produced some beautifully made and large bannerstones. I do have a few of those (the sharpening stones) I got off a guy who used to collect in one of those areas before archeological excavations took place. Also, I find alot of thumbnail scapers pretty much the same as the one you have pictured. And what a great axe you have pictured under Virginia. That one's a classic.

Re: New Artifacts Added.

I've not been keeping up with the forums much since I started back with my pesky habit of diving for shark teeth. I was just looking at JP's excellent N.J. artifacts, especially the awesome axes, and read that he had not found much in the way of pipe bowls with stems on them. I was going through some old pics a couple of weeks ago and there were a couple of pics of colonial type pipes I had accidently found while walking a stream and not finding the shark teeth I was looking for. If I was actually looking for artifacts I wouldn't have a fraction of what I have now. Maybe if I don't look for shark teeth when I dive I will find more six inch megs. Now there's some twisted logic for you. Pipe bowls with any amount of stem attached seem uncommon but pipes with near complete stems are rare. Not the items I was looking for, but I guess I can't complain.
