Re: NJ artifacts
Bob - In my book, artifact fever is most definately an excellent excuse for taking a day off. Not so sure about the "legal" part though. After the heavy rains last week I went out on Monday afternoon only to find footprints everywhere. Later I saw the maker of the footprints and he said, "you should have taken off from work today". He had spent the entire day out there. I think you are very fortunate Bob to have a number of fields in which to hunt and I wish you continued success in your search for artifacts.

Re: NJ artifacts
Hey jp. I mentioned taking a day off and ended up with the whole week. We have a lot to do here, but will be out hunting as much as possible through the weekend. Conditions are going down hill fast in this area, as the corn is about knee high at this point. I'm sorry to hear about all the footprints and have to say that we are seeing more here as time goes on and in my favorite fields too. I suppose that It's human nature to want something all to ourselves, but putting myself in the other persons shoes, I would certainly want a to have a good place to hunt too. Thank you and good luck to you too. Now that I think about it, you must be about due to find another grooved axe aren't you?

Re: NJ artifacts
Hey Bob - We've had some pretty intense thunderstorms down here and hope you have had them also. Good to have some rain on your week off and I hope you have alot of fun and success in your hunts. You are right, of course, about putting myself in the other person's shoes. I went out last evening and was thinking about your statement that it was time for me to find a grooved axe. No such luck, but did manage to find three points - 2 late archaic argillite Poplar Island's and a real nice triangle that unfortunately is nipped in a couple of spots. Still, a great haul for this time of year.

Re: NJ artifacts
We've had quite a bit of  rain here in the past few days too jp. I'm glad to hear that you were able to get out and that you made some nice finds. That is a good haul, with it being so late in the season. We got off to a good start yesterday ourselves, finding a Lavanna point and what I believe to be a Snook Kill, within the first hour that we were out, but didn't find much besides a few broken pieces the rest of the day. I wasn't able to get out at all today, but I have tomarrow afternoon free. Congrats on your latest finds jp and good luck on your next hunt.

Re: NJ artifacts
hi Jp, I worked as a geoarchaeologist for a couple of years in RI, NJ, PA, DE and NC, and most of the argillite that I saw was in New England, with only a small amount in PA, NJ and DE. I haven't seen but one point made of argillite here in NC. Most of the PA, NJ, & DE material was quartzite, chert and jasper. Most of what I have seen in NC is quartzite and jasper. By no means is this a set in stone rule, it is just what I've observed. Keith
