Re: Maryland Indian Artifiacts?

Hey Daryl. Just wondering if you've been doing any artifact hunting. Things have been awfully dry here lately and we haven't been finding much, but we did get some heavy rain this afternoon. I thought of you as I was working my way across a field with about three inches of mud stuck to each boot. It wasn't a nice walk, but the rain really helped. It never fails that the conditions are the best when I have to be at work. I am able to get out in the mornings for a little while before work if I want to, so I guess I shouldn't complain. Anyway, I was just wondering what you were up to.

Re: Maryland Indian Artifiacts?

Hi Bob.  With limited time for the hobby, I've only gone shark tooth hunting a few times lately.  Last Friday though, my coworker showed me how to get to a place on the Potomac River near where he grew up.  He said there's a huge pile of oyster shells on top of the bank.  He knows people haver found artifacts there, but wasn't sure if they had to dig for them or what.  I'm going to try to check it out over the next few weeks.  The farmer's fields that I checked out a few weeks ago have been plowed and planted - no more walking on them.  There's also a nice crick behind my coworkers house in Southern MD, but he said this time of the year the woods along the crick are loaded with ticks - so I think I might wait to try that until cooler weather when there aren't so many leafy trees and bushes to walk through.

Daryl.

Re: Maryland Indian Artifiacts?
The Potomac River site sounds good Daryl, you never know. Most of the fields have been planted here too. One of my favorites was planted back to hay this year, so we only had a short time to hunt it this spring. The farmers in this area usually rotate between corn and hay about every four years, so I'm hoping that we'll be able to spend some more time there in the future.Walking those streams can pay off too. I have a friend that has found several nice artifacts that way. As a matter of fact, he recently found an oval blade similar to the ones I put up under New York Artifacts sticking out of a clay bank along a river. One of these days when the water is low, I'm going to take my canoe down one of the rivers here and hunt the banks along the way. The way they are always eroding it might be worth while. I don't blame you with the tics Daryl. I have another friend that had Lyme Disease a few years ago and after seeing what he went through, I don't want any part of it. Good luck on your Potomac River hunt.
