NJ bear jaw?
My dad found this jaw today in our back yard.  To me it looked like a bear jaw but I'm curious what kind.  I've never seen a bear anywhere near this part of NJ (middleish) so this is strange.  It was just sitting on the ground in the woods behind our house.  It seems to be a bit fossilized, it almost looks like wood.  There is a chipped tooth in the front and one or two missing teeth in the front also.  Can anyone tell me what species it is?

Re: NJ bear jaw?

Bears have molars that look somewhat like human molars, flat with bumps on the top, but they are much longer than human molars. Your jaw looks like it is from Bos taurus, better known as a cow.
