I have no idea what this is....
This was found in NJ in the upper Manasquan River. It was found in grayish clay and still has some attached. The object seems to have plates that kind of spiral/curl.

It definitely favors some oysters such as the Inoceramas genus.  I used to find Inoceramas a lot in the cretaceous of Texas and they looked a lot like what you have pictured here.

Do you have any knowledge of the geology of the area it was found in, such as relative age or anything like that?

I think the area where I found it is part of the Eocene period. I also find shark teeth in the area if that makes a difference. It might be an oyster, but the thing that threw me off was that there seems to be a row of seperate plates along the side (so it doesn't look like bivalve). But I could be wrong.
