Geology Field Studies Trip

This past May I took a three week camping trip out west in Utah, Nevada, Arizona, and California for a geology field studies class. I had a blast! I took every opportunity to hunt fossils whenever I could. I can’t wait to go back again someday!

Location Big Pine, California, USA

A photo of me at the trilobite site in Big Pine, California.
Trace fossil of a trilobite from the Big Pine, California site. I didn't find any actual trilobites, but it was still an awesome experience.
A photo of the archeocyathid site in Big Pine, California.
A piece of obsidian (type of volcanic rock) from California.
Grand Canyon, Arizona.
Some fossil worm burrows I found while hiking the Grand Canyon. I did not collect these though.
Dinosaur track I found while doing field work in Utah.

It must be a pretty amazing experience to be in the field for 3 weeks! Many of us can only imagine. How did you find out about the Trilobite site in Big Pine? Is there a directions guide to that location somewhere online? Content Quality : 10 of 10

I didn't collect the footprint, but I wanted too. I didn't have the right tools with me to safely extract the footprint from the rock without breaking it. The trilobite site in Big Pine is not a public site. Geologists get special permission to do field work in that area.
