The Creek Geek

The last time it rained in Summerville I stood at the window like a dog waiting for dinner. I didn't have a new land site to hunt, but my favorite ditch always produces after quick, heavy rains. The water level doesn't stay up long, either, so its usually ready to hunt just a few hours after the rain ends. My eyes were primed because of my recent training at Lee Creek so I was easily able to pick the teeth out against the surrounding gravel. I kept waiting for a superhero to be barely exposed under the sand but it was not to be this trip. I found the usual assortment of superb smaller teeth, including hemipristis, tigers, hammerheads, and varous carcharinids so at least I didn't leave empty handed. The biggest shamer of this hunt was a carcharoides catticus with a cusp broken off. UGH! When I found it, I thought it was complete. I've never found a complete reef shark tooth in this spot and this was about the fourth broken specimen I had found. Its not in the picture because I threw it back as if in defiance of the fossil overlords that continue to taunt me with sub par specimens!
