I found this one comming back up the hill and it was in a little pocket that made it impossible to see on the way down. If it wasn't for the tip it would make it over 4" with out a doubt.

Its a little worn, but these are so tough to come by in any decent state of preservation that I feel extremely fortunate to have found this tooth. Especially considering the awful collecting area. These have got to be my favorite teeth. The roots fascinate me - they only seem to look like this from the various quarries. There are some NC river rics around, but to me they look more like angustidens.... |

I shaved a little bit of the root off this one I'm just so glad I didn't destroy it with the shovel. The cusps on this thing are really big for a small ric and every serration is intact including the rare tip serration something you never see on most rics that is shown better in the close up picture.... |

I am still in shock that I found this tooth where I did. I was at a site only a few miles from the ocean, and there was an Eocene layer exposed! This tooth came right out of it, and is definitely the most unexpected find of the day. Even more stunning is its condition. I've hunted the quarries inland for these teeth, and to date, I still haven't found a perfect one. I'll take 'em how I can get 'em, though.... |

This is a little gem, here. The root is unreal, its so awesome. It totally looks like rubber or something like that its so smooth! And thick, too. Notice the rounded root lobes. Also, look at the cusps and the way they point away from the bottom of the tooth. This is how I distinguish between the two species. This one has it all right up to the tip, which has been rounded down through use by the shark.... |

From the moment I first laid eyes on this tooth, I knew it had tip dingage and then some. But is so pretty, and since I have so few of these teeth, this one sneaks in. It does have a fabulous bourlette, though. Notice again the round root lobes and cusps that point away from the tip of the tooth.... |
