Giant Lee Creek Hemipristis Shark Tooth
Lee Creek Mine, Aurora, North Carolina, USA - Hemipristis serra |
I found this monstrous Lee Cree Hemipristis shark tooth about 5 feet from the megalodon tooth I found on the same trip. I almost missed this tooth in my excitement of finding the megalodon tooth. You can see in the ground shot where I kicked some dirt onto it while descending the hill to get the megalodon. ... |

Giant Hemipristis Tooth
Lee Creek Mine, Aurora, North Carolina, USA - Hemipristis serra |
I can't describe how much I wanted to find a big hemipristis tooth. I saw da fossz find one a few seasons ago, and I've seen Jedi Master's case of monsters. Among shark's teeth, this species has a unique, savage shape that I really love. This colossal upper specimen is from the Yorktown formation at the famous Lee Creek mine in Aurora NC. It easily takes the crown as the new king of my hemi case.... |

Pathologic Hemipristis Shark Tooth
Dorchester County, South Carolina, USA - Hemipristis serra |
This was a bonus that I didn't find until I cleaned my finds. I always sort my teeth as I pick them up, broken teeth in one place and complete teeth in another. Since this tooth was dirty when I picked it up, I thought it was broken but later when I cleaned it I saw the pathology. ... |

Fossil Hemi Tooth
Dorchester County, South Carolina, USA - Hemipristis serra |
I love the color on this tooth. Its almost a reddish-purple color. Plus its got a cool variation on the blade. There is a little indentation on the edge of the blade that looks like feeding damage but magnifaction reveals there is no break, but the enamel is smooth and is just indented. On another species I would call this a pathology but I've seen it before on other hemis. Perhaps it has something to do with the way the teeth fit together in the jaw? There is another variation in some teeth in ... |

Besides being a beautiful tooth, this one has the added bonus of a pathology. It has serrations running parallel to the root on the back of the tooth. You can see it quite easily in the second photo. It also has another errant serration on the other edge, but I couldn't get a good photo of it. ... |

7/8" Sympheseal Snaggletooth shark tooth
Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Hemipristis serra |

This strange looking tooth is a lower sympheseal hemi. It’s the only position in the mouth that looks like that. It looks very similar to the same position in the Goblin Shark, but since I don't hunt cretaceous deposits, it has to be hemipristis.... |

1 1/4" Snaggletooth Shark Tooth
Dorchester County, South Carolina, USA - Hemipristis serra |
This is one of those teeth that you pick up and can instantly tell that it's something special. This has got to be one of the best hemis I've ever seen. I still can't believe how sharp the tip is and how completely without wear the tooth is. I found it right in the upper Chandler Bridge, though, and I'm guessing that's why its in such good shape. And the color is sweet, too.... |
