Dorchester creek was one of my first hunting spots. this is a tidal creek in Dorchester County. I found my first 4 inch angustidens shark tooth here just lying on the bottom, as well as some other great stuff. You're gonna get wet, but it just might be worth it!
You will need: A spaghetti strainer or similar screening device (to sift), a shovel, and a plastic bag (to put our fossils in). A larger strainer would be helpful to sift the deeper spots. Check the tools page for instructions. You can also just walk and look, but it is better to sift the rocks in the bottom. Make sure you come at low tide, else the water is 4 - 6 feet deep! Just check for low tide in the Charleston Harbor, and you'll arrive at the right time. Just about halfway between the two entry points there is a deeper section of waterwhere some large teeth are bound to be hiding. Do not dig in the bank in this location. I have heard rumors that police have been running people off who dig in the banks. I have never heard of anyone in trouble for sifting the bottom.
Directions from I-26:

- From Charleston, take I-26 toward Columbia.
- Take exit 205(I think) to Summerville. This is Hwy 78. There will be a Hess Station (like a mile or so past the interstate) on the corner of 78 and Ladson Rd. Turn left onto Ladson Rd. (This is on the map)
- Drive to the end of Ladson Rd (probably about 5 miles). It ends at Dorchester Rd.
- Turn right on Dorchester Rd. Less than a half a mile ahead on the right, you will see a Kentucky Fried Chicken. Turn right here.
- Continue through the Kentucky Fried Chicken parking lot to the Bi-Lo Shopping center parking lot. On your left, you will see Woods. Head towards the woods and you will see a creek. This is marked 2 on the map.
- In order to get to the entry point marked 1 by car, head towards Ladson rd - that is straight across the parking lot on the side opposite the creek.. Turn left and continue until you see the Midas shop on the left. Turn left just before that and go to the end of the road (Crosscreek Dr.) Crosscreek Dr. will turn into a dirt road that ends at the creek. The SummervilleYMCA owns the property there, so its best to get permission if you plan on parking there. You can also just park at #2 and walk down the creek bank to get there and avoid the whole mess.
