4 for m4!

The opening of the Aurora Fall season - it's like the start of football season, the only reasons to look forward to the fall when you live in Michigan. You get to see the usual gang again, everyone eager with anticipation for the hunt. Before we start you have to quickly scan the intended area and choose your spot. I picked out my hill, looked to be entirely yorktown and was two hills over with water in the way. I said 'hey' to M4 as i zipped out into the mine when the starting gun sounded. I had to stop and check out his manly new neck/ hard hat cover - I say ‘manly’ because only someone with extreme confidence in his manhood could wear that particular ensamble. About 30 seconds into the start, i was quickly scanning the hills as i scrambled down a hill trying to take a shortcut to the hill, and saw a real nice hastalis mako. I was so excited to have the early luck that i wiped-out trying to pick it up and keep my speed up so as not to lose my ‘pole position’. That early luck was a good sign for me. I got over to the yorktown hill after taking a couple of shortcuts that others failed to see and had the hill all to myself. I figured i had better give it a quick once over before others showed up. On my first pass up the hill, i grabed a small posterior meg within the first 5 minutes. My smile had not yet worn off and another beautiful hastalis was about 10 feet away. Another 15 minutes later and i see a root sticking out, looks to be another mako, but as i uncover it, i see the biggest modern tiger that I have ever personally seen - and I *love* the modern tigers. It had a little damage, but makes my other 'huge' tigers look small, so i really didn't care. Took me a bit to realize that i still had the hill to myself...nobody else was showing up. Panic quickly set in...was i out of bounds or something? Nope...just the good luck shining on me for a day! I worked my way down the hill and was about to work my way up the next line, when a little voice in my head says turn around. Normally i have to block out the voices in my head so that I don't have to wear the funny jacket with the wrap around sleeves, but this time I listened. I look back and see just the smallest hint of a blade edge. 'Mako' pops out of my mouth, but when i reach out to grab it... way too thick of a root. Sure enough, the holy grail of aurora teeth (for me at least) is in my hand - paratodus benedeni! Okay...feeding damage, but that's like a supermodel with a zit - who cares! After picking that tooth, my day was complete. However, farther down the hill, there was an area of coral and shells. I was walking through it and just caught a tooth out of the corner of my eye - a great white, but with coral encrusted on it. The coral was kind enough to make a perfect display frame for the tooth. Excellent trip!
