New York Collecting Trip

The area around the small settlement of Earlton New York (Greene County) is underlain by Middle Devonain Strata belonging to the Hamilton Group. The specific beds exposed in this area belong to the Mount Marion Shale and Sandstone. We will be posting pics of fossils we have collected from these beds.

The first picture is of the Trilobite known as Dipleura dekayi. It is missing the head but still measures 6 inches long. Big guy. This speciman was collected at the Rt 81 Quarry, Earlton New York.

The second picture illustrates several specimens of the Brachiopod known as Mucrospirifer mucronatus. These fossils were collected at the Potic Mountain Quarry, Earlton New York.
