Peace Be With You

About a month or so ago, RivrDigr emailed the BRFC brotherhood to see if we were interested into a trip into one of the Bone Valley mines. After some bargaining with a higher power, I was given the green light. To make a better trip of it, he also invited us to go to the Peace River on Saturday and Sunday before the quarry trip. Da f0ssZ, t$, and I hooked up at my crib and headed southward Friday. 9 hours later and one Taco Bell feast later, we checked into our hotel with High hopes.

Day 1: Peace River
We met up with our gracious hosts RivrDigr and Chuck at our hotel at 7 am, and we followed them to the hunting spot. GMan and GWoman met us at the river. We loaded up the canoes and began the trek upriver. There was an incredible gravel layer all over the bottom at this spot, and almost as soon as we got there, we started finding teeth. It seemed like every 5 minutes someone was finding a megalodon tooth. They were all small, but from what I hear that's all that are found down here. Within the first hour, I had a superb 2+ incher, a trip maker in my opinion. The finds continued all day - we never moved in 7 hours. I would imagine that well over 50 megalodon teeth were found by our little hunting party that day, not to mention the loads of other shark species and pleistocene fossils. It was amazing! We sifted like there would be no tomorrow, even though we already had plans to repeat. By the end of the day, we were feeling the pain, though it was greatly numbed by the sheer volumes of fossils we had all scored.

Day 2: Peace River
RivrDigr and Chuck had a different plan for today. GMan didn't make it down, but we were joined by our Texas homie Rock Splitter and his girlfriend and mom. The plan was to put the canoes in at one spot, and just hit all kinds of spots down the river as we progressed towards our destination. Even though we hit about 6 different areas, none was even close to as good as the place we went yesterday. My most notable find was a killer little juvenile megalodon tooth. I found it as I threw a final shovel full of gravel into my sifter before we left a spot. Talk about last minute!

Big thanx to RivrDigr and Chuck for a great time on the river!

The total 2 day haul from sifting the river.
We hunted fossils at a really nice location. This place reminds me a lot of the Edisto.
T$ busily hunting for a nice megalodon tooth.
