Catching Up with a Great Post

I can't believe it has taken me this long to post this Edisto fossil & artifact hunt that I made almost three months ago. No time for excuses, so here's the scoop. All this haul came from Artifact City, my new favorite spot in the Edisto. Not only are there shark teeth and other fossils ripe for the plucking, but there are also artifacts galore. I have never gone to this site without finding pottery. Check out the photo of all I found, and that's only half of it! I couldn't even fit the rest of it on the posterboard. I mentioned that this spot is great for big shark teeth - its where the weezling found his two 4 inch angustidens earlier this year. Well this hunt, I got one that would have been 4 inches except that the tip was broken. I got another over 3 incher that is really sweet. I found both of those pretty close to each other. I don't think they are associated, but its just interesting how big teeth always seem to hang out together, both in my fossil collection and on the bottom of the river. This was also a banner artifact day, with my second biggest spear point ever from that river. This one is made of a different material than the other big one I found earlier this year. I think its agatized coral. That material comes from Florida - it is not found in SC, so this is just another instance of trading amongst ancient Americans. I got some cool footage in the video, so definitely check that out if you have a few extra minutes.

Is that area just a buildup of sediments, or is there another explanation for so many artifacts in that area. Was there a large village nearby? Content Quality : 10 of 10

There is a massive buildup of sediment but there had to be a camp of some kind nearby. Too much pottery, broken tools, percussion flakes, etc. The spots just around the bends on both sides are basically devoid of artifacts in comparison. i can't wait to see what comes out next season!
