I'm proud to be an American! - 12/26/2009

I echo your sentiments. I'm a USAF veteran myself and many of my coworkers are active duty representing all branches of the military. Several of them are deployed right now in harm's way. In January several of us at work will be visiting some of the wounded recovering at Walter Reed Army Medical Hospital in D.C., as part of the Wounded Warrior Committee we have at work. Through fund raising activities we raise money for the soldiers recovering at the hospital, and once per quarter we go visit them and give them $gift cards, phone cards, etc. I've never been on an actual visit because I hear from others that have been that it is very emotional, and it just seems so inadequate to be giving these soldiers a gift card when you really want to give them a million dollars. No price can be put on their missing limbs, lost eyesight, or psychological scars, but I know they appreciate the heartfelt intentions on our part. Content Quality : 10 of 10

Agreed, and well-said, sharkdentist! And I also appreciate the volunteering you talked about, Daryl. As a US Army vet who is the son of a disabled WWII vet, I am very proud of our troops, and believe that they all deserve our support and admiration for the sacrifices they make.
