9/3/10

For the last week I've been watching the weather, Tropical Storm Earl has been heading our way and I was going to be ready for it. We have not had a good storm in a while and I, like all of you have been getting excited. The Storm was supposed to be hitting us the hardest at around 5:30-6 AM Friday. So first thing I was on the river waiting for sun up. The storm was a disappointment, gusty winds & rough water but no real surge, the shell pile up next to the cliffs never even got touched. I found my first tooth in the dark, with a flashlight. The storm was weak but the howling wind still made my ears ache. I waded up bits of paper towels and stuck them in my ears like ear plugs, and that worked out perfectly. In a hour or two the wind died down and the river as well. Teeth were coming slow but steady. I had talked to Govin the day before and expected to run into him eventually, about 10AM i did. I hope he didn't get to frustrated because i didn't leave many teeth lol. Later that day i made it up to him, i took him to two new beaches he didn't know about, we had a good day. The nicest teeth of the day were a pretty gray Mako and a perfect tiger that I found at the new spot. I left Govin on the original beach and wished him luck then headed home. All and all i spent about 11 hours on the beach today, nothing big but i had a great time hunting with Govin. Earl didn't hit hard but still scratched the itch. Speaking of itch some kind of bug got me, because the next day i was covered in bites head to toe... to many to count. A little calamine lotion and a cold beer, still smiling. DBTB

DBTB, you're not the only one disappointed with Earl's lack-luster performance. Folks at work thought it was strange for me to be saying out loud.."come on Earl, bring it on". Don't get me wrong, I don't want the bad stuff that storms bring, just more fossils :). Don't worry about Govin, he seems to find stuff even after you think you've covered the whole beach. He carries that little soup ladle with a screen and seems to scoop up stuff all the time. You found some nice stuff, especially that large tiger shark tooth. Content Quality : 10 of 10

Awesome teeth Jake! I didn't get to see them all that day, but you did a LOT better than I did. You made a good choice by going home early... I found one tooth after you left. I was attacked by biting flies.... they literally ran me off the beach! I had a great time! Thanks for showing me the new spots. See you out there soon. And thanks for the kind words Daryl. :) Content Quality : 10 of 10
