Hunting Bone Valley With The Southwest Florida Fossil Club   Polk County, Florida, USA
Day3 was a trip set up by Chuck and the SW Florida Fossil Club to a phosphate mine in the Bone Valley region. About 30 folks arrived around 9AM and were given a quick safety brief and short review of Florida paleontology which included the struggles of all giant beasts that roamed Florida in prehistory. Day Two " The Mud Ball Pit "   Polk County, Florida, USA
Day Two took us to a phosphate mine located in Polk county. The area we collected was called the mud ball pit, and thats exactly what it was. There is a constant flow of high pressure water with mud balls, rocks and of course fossils shooting out into the slurry field. Unfortunately all that tumbling breaks most of the teeth. I picked up an assortment of dolphin and dugong verts, a couple of three toed horse teeth and a bunch of broken megs. This pit has produced some nice teeth in the past but ...
