Hey Jake!! Nice finds, and I'm glad to see you posting some trip reports again. I don't think that tooth is a mosasaur tooth. There shouldn't be any cretaceous material around there... it looks like a barracuda tooth. check out this site... http://www.elasmo.com/leecreek/lc_fish/fishSp.html?tgtSp=sphy_sp Content Quality : 10 of 10

I'm thinking it's kinda big for a barracuda. Maybe a crocodile or alligator? Content Quality : 10 of 10

OK John, on second thought, I'm with you, the teeth can get to almost an inch, so it probably is a 'cuda and also because it looks compressed and not conical. Content Quality : 10 of 10

I think you guys are right about that tooth. This would be my first barracuda tooth and all I had to compare it with was crocks and mosasaur teeth. Very cool. Content Quality : 1 of 10

...well, I was looking around on Elasmo.com trying to ID some of my micro stuff and saw (no pun intende) the sawfish rostral teeth and your pic popped into my head. Check out the pic: http://www.elasmo.com/genera/pics/neogene/ds959a-d-web.jpg and see what you think...

I guess that's another reason that I love this hobby, finding cool stuff and trying to figure out what they are, what the animal ate or who preyed on it, what the environment was like, etc. At any rate, it's a cool fossil for sure!
