The best chubutensis I have out of lee creek, perhaps the best I have all together. length is 3 inches slant. serrations are still killer sharp after what, 10-15 million years! not to mention the enamel in super shiny, i love it!!! the tip has some feeding damage, some might find that a bummer but for me it just says this shark was eating some huge dinner items for it to chip a large tooth like this.I put this under... |

Pathologic Chubutensis Shark Tooth
Lee Creek Mine, Aurora, North Carolina, USA - Carcharocles chubutensis |
This Pathologic Chubutensis Shark Tooth was about the last thing I found. I was dragging back to the bus at the end of a stifling day. I spied a root poking out of the ground and it looked exactly like a modern tiger shark tooth. I tapped it with the tip of my boot to make sure before I made all the effort to bend over and pick it up. When I first saw it, I thought it was broken and missing a cusp, but the strange angle of the thi... |

Pungo Megalodon Tooth
Lee Creek Mine, Aurora, North Carolina, USA - Carcharocles chubutensis |
I found this tooth stuck in a block of limestone, its flat side completely exposed. I have never found a tooth in that stuff before, and today was the first time I didn't bring a rock hammer and chisel. I figured - why lug the extra useless weight? Poor decision...
How did I get it out, you ask? I put on the safety glasses and went samurai on the block with my shovel. It required a great deal of concentration, but I popped the tooth out in less than 5 minutes with no... |

Lee Creek Chubutensis Tooth
Lee Creek Mine, Aurora, North Carolina, USA - Carcharocles chubutensis |

Barely exposed, I saw just the center of the enamel of this beautiful Chubutensis in a washout through the middle of a big pile of that black, powdery Pungo. The edge was kind of steep though, so I couldn't stand far enough away to get a ground shot without falling backwards down the hill. ... |

I wish I had a camera when I found this tooth. I had pulled my screen into the water after it was half full so I didn't have to reach as far as I shoveled material into it. As each shovel-load went in, the gravel laden sand would "melt" as the water moved around it. The screen was almost full when I went to dump another shovel-load in only to see this tooth, labial side up, sitting fully exposed on top of my screen. It's the largest tooth I've found in New Jersey.... |

2 5/8" Pungo Megalodon Shark Tooth
Lee Creek Mine, Aurora, North Carolina, USA - Carcharocles chubutensis |
This was the trip saver for me for my first time at Aurora. I found it 50 minutes before I was due back at the bus, and it was among the best teeth found that day. Its by far my best chub to date. Nothing locally can ever compare to a tooth from the mine. Just look at the photos! Incredible color, perfect root, bourlette, and serrations. The very tip serration is dinged, but its barely noticable. The sliver of enamel missing on the front stuck in the matrix when I picked the tooth up. I drooled ... |
