Blue Point
Dorchester County, South Carolina, USA |
|
|
Found this point last week. It is an interesting blueish gray color. The length and width reported below are approximate since I don't have the point in hand at the time of this posting.
An exact identity is hard to come by, but I believe it could be an Adena (3000-1100BP), Little Bear (4000-1500BP), or Pickwick (6000-3500BP). Here are a few links I used for the research.&nbs... |

Three points found in 2010
Dorchester County, South Carolina, USA |
|
|
The spear point and arrowheads were all found in 2010. Though my search was for large prestine fossilized shark teeth for my collection, I also stumbled upon a few points worth adding to the collection. I love that most of the points I have found this year are each quite different from one another. I look forward to what next year brings. ... |

Quartz Pinella Point
Colleton County, South Carolina, USA |
|
|
I found this incredible little quartz point while snorkeling a bank in the Edisto river. It was an overcast day so the viso was pretty bad. I almost missed it because its really close to the color of the sand. The workmanship and symmetry are phenomenal. It is literally paper thin on the base. Because its quartz, its also translucent. Check out the photo below when I held it up to a light! I did some research in my Overstreet guide and I think this is a Pinella point. ... |

1 3/4" Arrowhead
Berkeley County, South Carolina, USA |

This is the undoubtedly the find of the day for me. I rarely find artifacts, but when I do, I'm thrilled! I found this in a section of the ditch very close to where I've found every other indian item from the ditch. I'll bet there was a camp somewhere near there. My friend Roy said that they symmetry on this arrowhead makes it special. He said that there were lots of indians who didn't really care to make them even on both sides like this one. I wonder if they knew we'd be so wild about collecti... |

1 1/4" Arrowhead
Berkeley County, South Carolina, USA |
|
|
This is the first arrowhead I ever found diving. It came from the Cooper river from under about 36 feet of water. Its one of the strangest arrowheads I've ever seen. It looks normal from the first photo, but look at the second photo. It’s a photo taken from the tip. Its twisted! I've seen others like this before, but never to this degree. From what I've been told, the purpose was so that the arrow rotated as it went in so it did more damage. Its not that spectacular, otherwise. But since these a... |

1 7/8" Arrowhead
Dorchester County, South Carolina, USA |

This little puppy kinda snuck up on me. My brother and I were on the way back to the truck, and I saw this about 3 feet from him. His response - "I always forget to look for those". Its not a bad one, either. The tip is missing, but the rest is there, and the edges are nice and sharp. I wish I knew more about these things. Maybe someday I'll buy a book.... |

You can't tell from the picture, but if you look at it head on, one side curves up and the other side curves down. Both edges of arrowheads generally lie on the same plane. One corner is chipped where the tip would have been attached to the spear, but it's really cool because it is the only one I have ever found. I traded this to my friend about a year ago for a tooth, and I have always regretted that trade. Today, he just gave it back along with a few other arrowheads. What a guy! This, and all ... |
