Summerville Angustidens Shark Tooth   Dorchester County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
This is the first angustidens I've found at a land site in a while. I love the colors from the Yellow ditch!
...
2 7/8 inch Carcharocles angustidens from the Edisto River   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
I found this beauty on my first Edisto River shark tooth hunt of 2012. If this is any presage on the season its going to be a good year!
...
1 13/16" Angustidens Shark Tooth   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
My best angustidens shark tooth from 2011.
...
Big Edisto Angustidens   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
This is just another sweetheart angustidens from the Edisto. It has everything except the tip - isn't that how it always is? I don't care, I'm still happy to find this tooth. Its the first I've ever found of this position in this large size....
2-1/2" C. Angustiden   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
One of the better angys this season. Crisp serrations and some orange mottling....
Unbelievable Quality Angustidens Mega Shark Tooth   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
I really can't say enough for this tooth. I found it laying on the surface, but it hadn't been there for long. By the color patterns on the tooth, I could see that the tip and majority of the tooth was poking out of the chandler bridge formation, while the edges and the entire flat side of the tooth were still embedded. When it flipped out, it was deposited exactly where I found it. This tooth has not tumbled down the river like so many other sharks teeth we find. The root is the weakest part wi...
Massive, Thick Angustidens Shark Tooth   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
I've never seen this position of angustidens before. Its nearly as wide as it is long, and it is incredibly thick and stocky. Although its worn, its a welcome addition to the collection....
Angustidens Tooth   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
A sweet angustidens tooth in great shape from the Edisto. It was buried under the sand so it was spared from the tannic encrustation so often coating river teeth....
Extreme Pathologic Angustidens Tooth   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
This is the most pathologic tooth of any kind I have ever found. The root is compressed, the blade is twisted, one cusp never formed, and there are serrations growing from both the front and the back of the tooth. What a sweet tooth!...
Juvenile Pathologic Angustidens Tooth   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
I have never found a tooth quite like this. The equivalent form in an angustidens of an Hubbel. The pathology is a little wrinkle in the front of the tooth. super cool!...
Angustidens Shark Tooth   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
What a little gem! Sharp all around!...
1-3/8" C. Angustiden   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
Deep river tannin stains give this tooth its great color....
3-11/16" C. Angustiden   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
A fabulous, large angy from the ACE basin!...
4 inch angustidens shark tooth   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
I fanned this monster angustidens out of a thick gravel bar on the bottom of the Edisto. Its the only complete 4 inch angustidens tooth I've found so far this season. Very interesting position, too. I like the exaggerated root lobe. Its like this tooth was stretching so it could hit the magic 4 inch mark!...
Bite Mark Angustidens Shark Tooth   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
This gem angustidens from the Edisto has a really cool bite mark across the bourlette....
Angustidens tooth   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens

Angustidens Tooth   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
Beautiful color on this one. You never know what's going to be under that black crust when you remove it. Sometimes its a mess, but not today!...
Angustidens Shark Tooth   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
Just a dagger! I love this position....
Angustidens Shark Tooth   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
A little beauty in great shape. This one hasn't been ground up by the river like so many of the other teeth we find there....
Really Nice Edisto River Angustidens   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
With only a little wear to speak of, this angustidens is pretty sweet. its got all the serrations, the tip, both cusps and a complete root. its tough to get through that whole checklist on river teeth but this one has got it all. i found it stuck in the middle of a pretty compact rock bed. good thing i found it when i did - those rock beds move and this tooth could have been ground up to bits had i not rescued it!...
Nice mega shark tooth from the Edisto   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
Another really nice angustidens mega shark tooth from the Edisto. I found it encased in some pretty compacted sand just above the chandler bridge formation off the edge of the main channel. this tooth has excellent preservation for the river which normally blasts and grinds everything to smithereens....
Red Tooth from the Edisto River   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
Normally I would set this tooth aside in the "what a shamer" box but this one is just beautiful. On the lingual side its got a pretty river orange / tan color. on the labial side, it is DEEP red. You can only barely see it in the photo, but in person its really pretty....
2" C. Angustiden   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
Best tooth this year so far! Great shiny black color, full serrations, tip, cusps and bourlette......
Button Angustidens Tooth   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
A cool little button posterior angustidens tooth with a nice twist to the blade....
Angustidens Shark Tooth   Dorchester County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
Its been a while since I sifted out a nice angustidens from this creek. This tooth came out on top of a shovel full of chandler bridge. I saw it the second it broken the water level, and I worried it would fall into the marky water as I slowly lifted it to my strainer. I pulled out the camera, shot it, and extracted it right away. No sense risking damage!...
4 1/4" Twin Angustidens   Dorchester County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens

These two teeth are the highlight of this fossil hunting season.  Both would be at least 1/4 - 1/2" longer if not for the feeding wear on the tip.  Neither are prestine, but both are in great shape for the size and make great additions to the collection.  The left tooth had particularly large cusps with a nice wave action.

...
Superior Angustidens Tooth   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
One of the finest angustidens teeth I have found all year. Besides for some pitting on the back of the root, this one is spectacular. Super blade & cusps, awesome bourlette. Its the stuff fossil hunting dreams are made of....
Lower Anterior Angustidens Shark Tooth   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens

This tooth has so much going for it. A super bourlette, a perfect root, two jagged, fully intact cusps, great color. Too bad about the tip! It had to have just washed out of the formation because it hadn't had time to get covered with that black river stain yet. I'm not used to seeing teeth this pretty laying on the bottom of the river.

...
Big Mega Shark Tooth   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
I found this tooth lying flat in a thin deposit of sand. I saw the shape of the tooth in the algae in the sand. I almost swam right over it!...
Nice River Angustidens Tooth   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
A really nice angustidens shark tooth fom the Edisto River. Fantastic color!...
Angustidens Shark Tooth from the Edisto River   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
This was the shark tooth that was the trip maker for me. Even though both cusps are dinged, the tip is impossibly sharp, which always impresses me. The root is really great, too. This angustidens shark tooth was laying flat in a thin gravel layer right on top of the glauconite clay. Because of the preservation, I have no doubt that this tooth washed directly out of that layer in the not to distant past. Big teeth like this don't survive long in the harsh environment of the Edisto....
Carcharocles Angustidens Tooth   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
A large, well preserved angustidens tooth that I found partially buried in the river bottom. Super sharp serrations and tip. Great bourlette! I love the shape of this tooth....
Angustidens Shark Tooth   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
I found this angustidens tooth with rock attached to the root & blade on both sides. I cleaned most of it off with dental picks to reveal an excellent quality shark tooth....
Juvenile Angustidens Tooth   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
Just a fantastic little juvenile angustidens tooth with fantastic color & preservation....
Pathologic Angustidens Tooth   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
I thought this tooth was broken junk when I found it. It wasn't until I got it home and cleaned up that I realized that not only was the tooth intact, but it was also very pathologic with an upturned cusp and a twisted, intermittently serrated blade....
1-3/4" C. Angustiden   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens

Killer tooth. The lingual side still has some matrtix, so I only snapped a labial shot. Check out the mottling!

...
2-1/4" C. Angustiden   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens

Probably my best angy from the Edisto over 2". Great color, bourlette, cusps, serrated, and a sharp tip!

Pristine Angustidens Shark Tooth   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
An outstanding little angustidens tooth with a really distinctive color marking on the back caused by an encrustation that I removed. This tooth has every serration!...

A nice smaller angustidens tooth....
Button Angustidens   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
A cute little angustidens tooth in fantastic condition. Despite the massive quantity of teeth I found at this particular spot (the Marble spot in the Edisto), this is the best quality tooth I found....
Giant Lower Angustidens Shark Tooth   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens

This is my super trip maker - a big, meaty, lower angustidens shark tooth. The recovery was awesome; I found this tooth flat side up on the edge of a rock bed. I could tell it was complete and nice from the first moment I saw it, which was the way I like it. No guess work, just the joyous certainty associated with finding a tooth of this calibre! The recovery video is with the trip post. Check it out if you haven't already!

I really love lower teeth. The dagger shape...

Carcharocles angustidens Tooth   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
This tooth was out in a pile of gravel, completely exposed on the bottom of the Edisto river. It doesn't take long for small teeth like this to get destroyed as the gravel gets moved by the current along the bottom of the river. Good thing I rescued it!...
Angustidens Shark Tooth   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
A little beauty from the Edisto. I found it all my itself on the bottom of the river in an open patch of formation, with very few rocks around. This one hasn't been out of the original formation for long!...
Gorgeous Angustidens from the Edisto   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens

I was fanning sand that was about 3 inches deep when I saw the root lobes of this tooth sticking up out of the fossil bearing formation at the bottom of the river. I carefully removed some of the formation with my screwdriver before pulling out the tooth to make sure I didn't break it when I pulled it out. Then a gentle tug later, I held the prize in my hand. I am glad I brought the camera because the ground shot was fantastic. Be sure to check the trip report because the movie of the r...

Megastidens   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens

I found this angustidens in the Edisto river on a shallow bank under the sand. I knew it was broken in half lengthwise, the tip was gone, and one cusp was dinged as soon as I saw it. I was bummed that it was broken, but I didn't really think a whole lot more about it until I got it home and glued it together and measured it. In its current state it is a whopping 4 7/8 inches long, a full eighth of an inch longer than my current largest angustidens tooth. And the tip is mangled, so I est...

3" C. Angustiden   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens

...
Carcharocles angustidens tooth   Dorchester County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
A really nice looking Carcharocles angustidens tooth from Summerville. I saw it and immediately pulled out my camera. I looked down for just a second to make sure I didn't drop it into the ditch and in that split second I lost the tooth. I stood motionless for 45 seconds looking for the prize. The weezling told me it was under a leaf, and he was right. What a coincidence that the fraction of a second I looked away was enough time for nature to hide this tooth again mere hours a...
Lateral angustidens shark tooth   Dorchester County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
Wicked recurve on this beautiful land-found angustidens tooth. There is some minor pitting on the root on the left side, but the blade is so good that it doesn't matter. This is a really wide lateral position tooth that is almost as wide as it is long....
martin marietta angy   North Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
this is what i believe to be an angustidens, not saying it is because it is hard for me to tell the difference some times from angustidens and auriculatis. any ways i found this beauty in the belgrade mine in maysville nc in 2002. it might be hard to tell but i actualy found it in two pieces, the top right part of the root was a few inches away from the rest. i ended up gluing it back and it looks like it almost never broke. this is actualy the best tooth i have ever came out ...
Pathological Posterior Angustiden   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens

A wicked patho angy with great river color.

...
Pristine Giant Angustidens Shark Tooth   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens

This is it! This is the tooth I've been looking for all year long! its a massive upper principal angustidens tooth with a serious attitude from the Edisto river in fantastic condition. It measures 3 31/32 inches along the longest diagonal, just a hair below the magic 4 inch number, but I'm not complaining.

The blade is killer. Both fragile yet menacing side cusplets are intact, serrated all the way around. The blade is free of chips all the way around with e...

Posterior angustidens shark tooth   Colleton County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
This is a truly odd tooth. It's a posterior angustidens tooth and it just barely resembles the rest of the teeth in that species' mouth. I've found thousands of angustidens teeth over the years, but less than 5 from this position....

Here's a sweet Carcharocles angustidens shark tooth from the Edisto river....
Angustidens Shark Tooth   Beaufort County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens

A really pretty angustidens from the ashley formation in Berkeley County, SC. I found it barely sticking out of the ashley formation when hunting with my clear bottom bucket.

...
Lightning Streak Super Color Angustidens Shark Tooth   Dorchester County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens

My favorite finds are always the teeth with good color. They are very difficult to find in good condition, but today I found a really nice one with super color. This angustidens is covered on the front and back with all kinds of lightning strike color patters. To make it even better, both cusps are intact, the serrations are sharp, and the tip is still pointy as ever. The root doesn't have any chips in it, and the bourlette is even still intact. It's tough for me to put this to...

Angustidens Shark Tooth   Dorchester County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens
This lower jaw angustidens tooth is a spike! It's completely symmetrical for that quintessential shark tooth triangle shape. The root is massive, almost like an auriculatus, but not quite. The bourlette is magnificent - Finding this tooth made my day!...

Ashley Formation Fossil Angustidens Shark Tooth   Berkeley County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens

This angustidens tooth was really the icing on the cake for my post tropical storm Hanna fossil hunts. It was an afterthought to hit this spot, but I'm glad we did. I found this gem with just its tip sticking out of the Ashley Formation barely above the water line of the ditch. I dug it out while wearing my new lucky Moes hat. What a time to be alive!

...
Colorful Summerville Angustidens Shark Tooth   Dorchester County, South Carolina, USA - Carcharocles angustidens

This gem angustidens was prize numero uno for my post tropical storm Hanna fossil hunting at Dutch Creek with the Weezling. This angustidens shark tooth is one of the most perfect shark teeth I've ever found. Its not missing a single serration anywhere. The bourlette is complete and there are no dings in the root. The color of this oligocene Summerville Chandler Bridge tooth is fantastic! I'll settle for one like this anytime!<...
